Default wd -40 question

My brakes are making squeaky noises when i step on the brakes. It does not make noise when I moisture the brakes with water. I think it is time to change my brakes, but i do not have the money. Should I consider using the wd-40 and where should i apply it on the brakes? brake pads?

The mileage is 76800 k . I do 80% city driving and 20% hwy driving. The squeaky noise only comes after I drove on a hwy going 70-80 mph, then i would enter city driving and the noise would come when i step on the brakes slowly.

Well you can do a quick visual inspection of the pads but I bet they're ready to be replaced. You say money is a problem but there really aren't many alternatives except to replace them. You can install cheaper after market pads for now and then redo it with high quality ones later. If they need doing and you ignore it, the rotors get damaged and then its even more money. And of course there the higher risk of an accident with your reduced stopping ability.

This isn't a very hard job. If you don't have any mechanical ability, find a friend who does and invest a couple of hour (max even for greenies) to DIY.
