Default RX 300 Tire Size

What are the benefits with moving to a 235/70R16 from a 225/70R16?

Thanks!

"OEM tire size is 225/70R16. Some owners move to 235/70R16 when it's time to replace the OEM tires. The 235/70R16's will fit in the spare tire well."

The load rating for a 235/70R16 when compared to the same tire in a 225 will be higher. However, a downside in some cases, the larger 235 (i.e. Michelin Cross Terrain) will have a lower tread wear rating than the 225.

The downside in some cases...not in my case. Living south of the border, tires sold in Mexico must have 5 layers as opposed to the U.S. standard 3. The treadwear is higher than the U.S. 235, but not as much as the 225 U.S. or Mexico standard. I had to pay about $25 more per tire than U.S. prices, but it is not even halfway in its life at 30,000 miles.

I have much more stability and a smoother ride. I do not get the same acceleration (at least it feels like it) with the 235, but still a better bet. There is ample clearance and you do not need spacers as opposed to moving to the 245.

I have a new set of LT225/75R16 and have been told opposite opinions about them fitting on my 1999 Lexus RX300! I live on a mountainous gravel dirt road so need the heavy duty tires,
Anyone know if they'll fit without spacers? Thanks

hi dipstix48
We might live on the same road! I need new tires for the same driving conditions and an AT3 tire I’m considering doesn’t come in a 70R16 but starts the 225 tires at 75R16. So, I wonder how your tires worked out and what you bought?
Thanks?

215 or 225/65/R16 is stock and improvement would be 235/65/R16 if road use.

Thanks Aussie
From everything I see 225/70 R 16 is the standard tire, which is what I have. The problem is I cannot get a really good country gravel road tire that I want unless I go to 225 75R16. So, I am hoping that someone will know if that small difference in height will make a future problem. I don’t want to go wider to 235.
thanks all
