Default Heater????

I'm in cold Chicago and was wondering if anyone else has problems with feeling the warm air when the auto function is on and all the air is being directed toward the floor???? It appears when I chabge the direction of the air it is blowiing hot air from the center vents and then the screen vents, it's just when the air is directed all to the floor I don't really feel it? Is it becasue the air is also going to the back thru the center console? if so has anyone figured out how to block it???

Steve,

You are correct in how the system operates. Of course when the air is directed toward the floor the side dash vents are on too (can be closed individually), the center console directs air to the rear and there are also ducts that supply air under the front seats to heat the toes of the passengers in the back seats. SO when you are all by your self there is a lot of air going elsewhere.

I've modified my system to give me more of what I want - to be warm on my drive to work! See my mod here:

Hot air goes up- so it heats from lower vents.Cold air comes down, so the upper vents blow cold air. Ofcourse you can change it manually. I usually put it in auto and wait for it come on, and then change it to upper vents when it comes on...and then back to Auto./Lower vent once I am warm enough

Default heater

Don't yet own one (RX) but if I understand the system correctly according to the owners manual once the system switches automatically to cooling mode, from footwell outlets to dash or combination, the output airflow will be predominantly cool and dry (the A/C runs year round, in wintertime for dehumidification to reduce instances of window fogging).

I don't pretend to understand this issue of radiant effects on the human body but I do know that I feel uncomfortable in a cool and dry "breeze" unless I'm in bright sunlight. So I often offset the temperature control to a slightly higher temperature than I really desire to compensate. The bad news is that the system soon "catches up" and again goes into cooling mode automatically.

Other than lowering a rear window slightly so the system never catches up does anyone have a better solution?

Oh I have noticed that it sometimes helps to turn the system off completely for a brief period.
