We've recently had some impressive rainstorms in the area and while out driving in heavy rain (but not actual flooding) I've had numerous incidents where I've gotten belt slippage. I have some suspicions that I might be missing a splash shield or undertray or something. Does anyone have in-situ pictures of all the splash shields and such my 99 RX300 is supposed to have? Thanks.
It is perfectly normal to have A/C light blink when you drive through standing water, but it should go away soon. The engine bottom is not water tight. Also the wheel wells have molded plastic shields.
If you crawl down you should see a sheet of plastic. Rip or tear would be evident and missing it altogether will be evident too.
If you google the shield, you should be able to see a diagram. There are lot of after market shields available.

Thanks, I've crawled down there and know there's supposed to be a rubber/plastic filler on each side behind the front wheel on the side of the body/fender well. I know it's not a sealed engine bay bit I was more wondering if there was supposed to be some sort of splash shield that went under the car at the front or to the sides. On some cars it can be hard to tell if there's supposed to be a shield under there as there's no holes in the subframe or body to attach to or they use speed clips/nuts. I'll go look under there again and maybe get some pictures to compare.
This is the engine undercover
This is a shot from below where the engine undercover meets the bottom of the driver's side front wheel well liner. The small black plastic fastener actually attaches the two together. Above this area in the engine bay is where the belts are.
Finally got a chance to get pics of the RX's front underside (now that it's not raining) and the wheel wells. I seem to have the above-mentioned plastic shield, but it does seem to have some damage.
Am I missing anything under here? It does look like there's supposed to be some additional skirting or shielding clipped on, especially in the wheel wells. More detailed shots from passenger to driver's side:
You have everything mine has except the 2 plastic fasteners shown in my pix. They allow the engine undercover shield to remain in place while you take all the other bolts out. You can get those at any auto parts store.

Okay, thanks - I may have some of those left over from my prior 4Runner.
