Default Help with coilover issue

Hello guys
Reaching out to guys that maybe dealt with issue like the one i am having,as this problem is driving me nuts.

Car is a 2015 model,TVD option.

I installed(my trusted mechanic did) in one go

-R and T RR racing coilovers(with dual adjustable shocks)
-Upper control arm from RR
-LCA bushing, the red poly version again from RR

From the get go,i had thumping sound from front and back, when hitting medium/large potholes. It was a muted metallic sound, coming from at least three corners of the car, like something was mivingmand hitting (not rubbing sound)
During the next days, the sound from the back suspension evolved into full rattling frenzy even in midlest or road anomalies. The slightest pot would create multiple clacking/full rattle from the back.Noise evolved to be more severe day by day, completely masking the noise of the front.

We raised the car two times to inspect, trying to eliminate the chance or anything rubbing,or anything loose.
Six eyes for hours could not find anything.

There is no obstruction to the suspension movement and no loose joints.

Anyone experience anything or the sort?
This is driving me nuts as car is becoming undrivable.

Real shame as i wanted to talk about the transformation that the upgrades bought to the table(maybe in another thread)
(Spoiler alert: completely transformed the dynamics or the car)

Any ideas? S

Have you reached out to the guys at RR Racing? Have you checked the center top nut? Sounds like that might be loose on at least 3 of the assemblies. Easy to see in the front if you move the car up and down and watch the center nut, it should not move at all.
Maybe give that a try?

Is it possible that you got bad parts from RR? Although, that is probably highly unlikely. It could still be the case..

I mean 6 eyes looking and checking for hours, twice. I could be wrong, but it might be bad parts. I'd reach out to RR.

I actually have the same issue with the same coilovers. From my understanding, it's because rr doesn't use a rubber top hat on the rear, which is why the noise is there.

Was it squicking sound or rattle? What was the remedy for your situation? There is no way to drive like this, car sounds like a beat up 40year old Fiat

That sucks. Something I always worry about before getting coils.
Not sure if you can relate, but I had coils before making clunking noise only when temperatures get cold.
Like mentioned above, reach out RR Racing. Hope you resolve the issue.

Sounds like you've checked pretty much everything you can. So have you heard back from RR Racing? This is isn't the first time customers had noise issues with coilovers from them. I'm sure they will take care of the issues, whether figuring out if there's something wrong with the installation or something wrong with the products themselves.

Has the preload on the springs been set up correctly? If the spring is not compressed enough it could be loose under full droop.

You cannot really preload the spring as the top ring does not rotate.Never seen that before.
In any case ,even the tinyest bump will rattle the car,so spring does not have enough travel to get loose.
Not sure if the OEM hats are compatible, maybe i exchange the hats see if it fixes it but doubt they are compatible..

Do not take the assemblies apart and do any part exchanging, that could be used to void any warranty. Besides, the rear top hats don’t have spring seats, they are not designed to have springs under them. Just let the guys at RR sort this out.

I never found one, I just ride around like that. Yours sounds more aggressive than mine. If I'm on a flat road there is no noise. I only have a noise when there's dips & bumps. Mine is a rattling sound. I do believe it's because there's no rubber between the car metal and coilover. I took mine apart 3 times thinking I installed them incorrectly but they are correct.

I have a similar issue but only in the front.

when ever I hit certain bumps I will get a knock sound from one side or the other. Sometimes from both. And the colder it is outside, the louder the sound.

I have a different brand of coil overs and this noise predates their install.

I suspect it is the LCA bushing from RR but I have not had a chance to swap them out for OE bushings to see if that corrects it.

Hello guys
So update.
After two separate mechanic shops working on the car, reinstalling everything 3 times, everyone that has worked on the car concluded that shocks are at fault. Clacking noise is coming from the shock itself.

I mentioned this to RR and they asked to send them over for check. Let's see.

Huge bummer and hustle , Having six sets of hands working on this for days , big disappointment. Will report.

This sounds like a top hat bolt issue to me. Depending on the coil, they are finicky, but are issues across the board.

Trying to torque the top nut down without it being underload will typically not give you proper security.

Jack one corner up at the knuckle (wheel off), continue until you see the car start to move. Inspect the top nut to see any movement. With the car supported with jackstands on other parts of the car, drop the jack. See if that moves.

9/10 that is what is causing the clunk. I had it with my CKS coils which are basically the same. If you see movement of the top bolt, re-jack and torque the nut under load.

Hope this helps.
