Not true. My Lexus keeps its fast idle much longer than my other cars do. No reed to idle at 1500 rpms longer than 1 minute for any reason. Very annoying.

🤦‍♂️ That because your Lexus, like most luxury or high end vehicles has programming to monitor the engine temp and keep the fast idle high until the engine is warmed to a point where the programming is satisfied that the driver will not do unnecessary wear to the vehicle. They might even have snappier shifts because transmission pressure might be increased to limit transmission wear as well. The RCF actually lowers the rev limiter when cold as added protection and slowly raises the limiter based on engine temp. I think it’s a great feature.
Sounds crazy that you lexus protects itself from the driver right? Ever wonder why they last hundreds of thousands more miles than other brands? Other brands may just have a simple preprogrammed time looking like: If temp < 40* then fast idle for 120 seconds.

If your car is fast idling for more than a few minutes you may have a bad sensor (idle control, tps) or if the car takes forever to come to temp it may be a thermostat.

Extended periods of fast idle does nothing to protect the car. Most people wont wait for the fast idle to drop before it gets slammed into gear. What does a fast idle do for you if you are drIving? Nothing at all. Its just a major annoyance putting the car into gear at 1500 rpms after you already warned for 2 minutes.

The question is; Does the RCF do this too? Its not clear in this thread. Everyone tries to justify it. So, it seems like its the same. I probably need to test drive one. Not do the Carvana thing again.

Thanks for all the replies.

I posted a video of mine. How is it unclear? It drops after 30 seconds down to 800 rpm, if it is in a heated garage. Would be longer if it is cold. Not sure what your confusion is.

Every car I've ever owned has a high idle and then drops down. I believe this is also done to get more heat in the catalytic converters so they do their job faster.

But yes the RCF does this as well. Starts higher then drops in idle. That's what makes the cold starts sound so bad ***!... if only it could stay like that..rofl. You aren't going to find a car that doesn't idle high at first. If you are annoyed at the Lexus for idling higher than expected for more than a minute ,I'd probably suggest occupying your time/thoughts with something that actually matters.. This level of concern/dislike for a high idle does not matter.

If you are not putting your car in to gear at 1500 Rpm every morning, then the RCF must be different than the RC-350.

I made a video of start up. It's 5 minutes long. Nothing is touched during the process in terms of gas or putting it in gear.

In the beginning upon start up the car is idling at around 1,400 RPMs.
At around 22 seconds in the car drops to around 1,100-1,200 RPMs. It stays here until around the 4:10 minute mark.
At around 4:10 is when the RPM's drop to around 1000 and stay there.

Seems pretty normal to me...

Thank you for the video! Very helpful. This.was at 54 degrees. I think my car behaves the same.

This must be a Lexus thing.

Drive the car to warm it up faster...Idling a car to warm it up is a waste of time.

Yeah. This fast idle is just plain stupid.

Another stupid that pisses me off when I start the car is a screen that pops up and says obey all traffic laws. ****** you. Don’t want a car telling me what to do! Does the RCF do this too?

This car is expensive. Not paying for stupid.

Default 2020 Ram Cold Start

Here is a video of my Ram cold start. Drops under 1000 RPMs in 40 sec. Its at 64 degrees, but its still very reasonable below 30. This is how its supposed to be.

The car went to Carmax already. Was contemplating replacing it with the RCF. But, don’t want a car that pisses me off every time I start it. Looking at an M4 and Q60 now.

Thanks everyone for preventing me from making another mistake! Much appreciated.

Is this whole thread trolling?

I don't really understand what he's griping at. Toyota/Lexus reliability speaks for itself... If he's thinking it's bad for the car..

Or is he complaining that it's too loud? most guys in here pay for louder.. haha

I'm just really confused by this whole thread.. Good luck with an M4...

Does the M4 have a super high Idle that lasts forever too? Or is it just not as good as the RCF.
