Smile Fun Toy

Went to the store. Not a big deal, something we do routinely. Took the long way home. Freeway has a long on ramp that curves out and up so I can see the water with a spectacular panorama--switched to Sport, applied gas pedal, big roar, pressed back into seat; what a fun toy.

Indeed. SPORT+/MANUAL mode (and TVD in slalom mode) is where the fun lives. Downshifts are savage and everything tightens up a lot compared to other modes. Never bothered with any other modes ever.

It is a fun toy. What makes the car unique in many ways is it is fun when you want it but you can still drive it like a more normal car when you have too. I never get tired of revving out the V-8.

You think it is fun now, wait until you get one out on a track.

I'm a novice with a muscle car. For me, so far, I like Sport mode (not sport +) since it shifts when I would shift if I had a manual transmission like in my youthful Datsun Fairlady days. Never having driven any video games, it just feels real in Sport.

Why don't you like SPORT+ more? It tightens everything up a lot more in SPORT+.

Sport + holds onto each shift until the revs are higher than I would hold it. Also it stays in the lowest gear for the speed I finally decide to stay at. Sport shifts quickly to provide acceleration when I'm getting going, but also quickly shifts up when I reach the speed I want (which is what I'd do with a manual shift). Like I said, I haven't played video game driving so only know what I did back in the day. Sport is more like what I like to do at least so far.

Comfort mode to sip gas and keep the spoiler down. Sport+ for spirited driving.

OK I am confused. If you are in manual mode, the transmission will shift exactly when you pull the paddle. It should not be holding any gears. Unless you are talking sport+ with auto mode, it downshifts or upshifts exactly when I want it to at least in my case.

Sailor is correct. In Sport+ mode the trans will not always go into a higher gear when commanded. I have had cases where I was doing 125kph and it would not let me take 8th in manual mode in S+. I had to switch to normal in auto and it grabbed it itself, went back to S+ manual mode and it was in 8.

I have seen that too. I only drive in SPORT+ and it always does not do that. It is always during cruising when it keeps 6th gear as the highest and does not let me go up to 8th. It is only under certain circumstances and I am not sure what they are.

I agree with everyone on this. It was a topic of aggravation early on with the car. I do not like how sport + does not let you shift up into higher gears than it thinks you should be in. Sport is a little less picky. It's like, "EXPERT MODE", except I'm not going to treat you like an expert, I'm going to treat you like someone who is going to shift into a gear that too high for, wait for it, "EXPERT MODE". Also the snappy shifts are way too aggressive in sport + manual mode for every day driving. Sport + was good for deactivating traction + stability before I learned the pedal dance. Sometimes the the shifts are too aggressive in sport mode. Sport Mode, manual has become my favorite way to drive the car. Im used to driving manual transmissions, and broke the 3 pedal rule for this car and thought I would never like a paddle shifter auto but the auto blip down shifts and all round firmer shifts have made me enjoy this car little bit more than other automatics. I know this trans hasn't gotten great praise on reviews but if you live with it, it is superb in many aspects.

This car really is fun to drive. Now that I picked up a daily for the winter it makes F drives even better.

I also daily mine in Sport mode. S+ is a bit aggressive and it likes to stay in 6th on the highway even just cruising. I used VF Tuner and tweaked the throttle map a bit for sport and it's just about perfect. I save S+ for the track or spirited back road drives.

Driving S+; in manual every time would be rather annoying. Maybe that's what makes this car so awesome, you can have your Jekle with your Hyde.

I typically only use the paddle shifters while in auto in order to downshift to slow down hills (steep hills with 25 mph (patrolled) limit). I do this so I don't have to ride the brake. There are a couple roads with curvy where I have in the past gotten out of auto to Manual, but mostly I'm satisfied with letting the trans do its job. I think I like S mode in auto more than S+ since I don't care for cabin noise (ASC is on in S+) as well as the more aggressive auto shifts with higher revs. The advo blurb also mentions AI (artificial intelligence) incorporated into the S mode shifting (but that is just as likely to be advo nonsense). "The transmission SPORT S mode includes G-sensor AI-Shift control, which uses information from the vehicle's G-sensors on driving status to provide the optimal gear ratio for sporty driving. In SPORT S mode, the transmission offers more dynamic acceleration control and hence a more sporting driving experience.

In addition to performing quicker downshifts than SPORT S mode, by holding the engine at a higher speed, SPORT S+ mode helps to achieve dynamic driving under high load conditions such as when driving on the race circuit."
