Default Manual spoiler duration

I've been trying to figure out the duration of manually raising the rear spoiler. The owners manual has me confused:

Restoring automatic operation after the active rear wing is operated manually: If the active rear wing is operated manually, automatic operation will resume according to the vehicle speed.

From what I can tell, if you deploy it manually, it stays up until you park the car and then resumes automatic operation on the next drive.
Help my dumb self out, what is the reality of this switch?

Thanks!

To rephrase "automatic operation will resume according to the vehicle speed" : in practice, this means that if you deploy it while stopped, it will stay up until you reach ~51 MPH and then the next time you slow down to <20 MPH it will drop like normal.

If you want the wing to stay up (or down) permanently, then you need to go into settings and turn off automatic wing operation.

I keep it up 100% of the time. You manually deploy it and get into the menu page and select off. It will stay all the time even in park.

I think I may just go that route, I like the look of it up and it doesn't confuse me so much lol.

I just hate it constantly going up and down, which is why I locked it in place

To each, their own, I suppose. I much prefer the look with the spoiler down. I think it looks a lot cleaner from the side and rear. I also love that it auto deploys at high speeds so I wouldn't want to disable that feature.

I think the only time I lock it up is when I'm doing a wash or any kind of detailing.

I locked my spoiler in place in the down position. If it was functional, then I would use it.

Does the spoiler not add any handling benefits at high speeds? I always thought the idea was to increase down force on the drive wheels.

Well... to put it simply, the Track Edition's wing produces 68 lbs of downforce at 168 MPH. And that is a pretty large wing... I really doubt the normal RC F wing is any good at anything besides creating extra drag. Maybe 30-40 lbs at 168 mph is my lucky guess.

Purely for looks, you either like it or you don't.
Personally I do.

My guess is that its function is to reduce drag at high speeds rather than providing down force.

If it did….it would be advertised in the brochure. 🤣

It depends on the design. It's like how canards on some airplanes are used to create lift, while others are used to increase maneuverability. The spoiler on the TE does not form a line with the body and is large, so it would increase drag but also provide downforce. The spoiler on the regular version is small and close to the body, so it's likely used to change the apparent shape of the body in order to reduce drag by reducing air flow separation.
