Default 22 months, 7200 miles - RCF will be missed

Bought this 2015 RC F back in July, 2019. Weekend rider only. Put in little more 7200 miles in past 22 months. Pandemic didn’t help. Car came with invidia exhaust and K&N intake. Always loved the sound of it. Two days ago, I traded it in for 2017 LX 570. When I purchaseD my F, we only had two kids but with 3rd kid added, it just wasn’t practical anymore. Plus I wasn’t driving much to ‘justify’ owning a coupe. Wife’s GX460 was getting too small for 3 small kids so had to upgrade to my ‘ultimate’ dream car, LX 570. Wished my financial status didn’t force me to trade the RC F but it had to be done. Took it for a spin right before trade in at a Lexus dealership but nonetheless, very sad to give her up. Hope to own it again in near future but for now, I’ll love my LX to haul all 3 kids around.

thanks for all the advice and tips i got from this forum. Hope to see you guys soon but moving onto LX forum now!

Congrats on the new car. Awesome choice. Enjoy the luxury of it. LX570 is total class and has such a presence. Your RCF looks great (looks like someone got inspiration from the 2019 anniversary edition). Do keep in touch.

Been enjoying mine on the weekends after 4 months of storage in the garage during the winter. Agreed, it is such a joy.

Previous owner definitely did a lot of work so it would ‘stand out’ from others. Going to miss it BIG TIME. LOVED how rare this car is. Although i only drove it on weekends, I think I ran into another RCF 3 times (including track edition) in 22 months i owned it. Don’t think LX570 will be as rare but good to know I’m not going to run into another LX on ever blocks.

Traded it at a local Lexus dealership. Had 32k odo. Curious to see what they’re going to be asking for soon. Maybe better than I don’t look at it!

Kids will do that to you. Got 6 of em myself. Maybe things will work out for you to have an extra dad car.

I’m glad you found a way to keep all three kids.
I have two children and family trips in the F are definitely a stretch to say the least.

In 22 months of ownership, i think i rode with my (2) kids (at the time, no 3rd baby) and wife probably less than 3-4 times. Just wasn’t practical.

So checked back the dealership where i traded it in. They have it posted at $45,455. I won’t mention the trade-in value they gave me but honestly i think this is a good price for car in this condition. Hope it goes to someone that will enjoy it as much as i did. Surprisingly this price is actually MORE than what i paid 22 months ago. Is used car market getting that much better or do you think this particular Lexus dealership is asking ‘too much’? I bought it used at BMW dealership before but considering they aren’t selling this as ‘certified’ I’m not sure buying it at Lexus dealership justifies more $. My car came with all options except for all weather. Thoughts?

For the condition of the car, which seems to be mint and the wiggle room for negotiation, they would end up selling it for $43K in the end, which is in-line with what mint condition 2015 RCFs especially the one with the carbon/TVD are going for. RCFs have been holding their values well lately especially after the pandemic started. Where I live, there are very few RCFs and even less with the carbon/TVD. I have seen a few go for more than what I paid 4 years ago for mine (still only has 10K miles on it).

I am pleasantly surprised 5 months after my RCF purchase that they are holding value incredibly well. I think I really got a huge December and sat on the lot too long discount, despite being CPO and a lexus dealer.

Hello Baboya96,

I purchased your RC F. I drove from Northern Virginia to Atlanta 600 miles in my 2013 Subaru BRZ. I traded my trusty ride for the RC F. The deal was done pretty much over the phone. I got a couple grand off what they were asking and they gave me a good deal on the trade in so I pulled the trigger. The only thing that sucked is they wouldn't L certify it because of the exhaust? They did put new Pirelli P Zero's on her.

Ive been looking for an RC F with these options for some time. There is very little inventory in my area unless I wanted a white base model. This one ticked all the boxes of wants I had!

Anyways, its a gorgeous car!!! The trip home was like a dream for me. 600 miles of smiles.

Ian

No way. That didn’t last long did it? Which salesman did you work with? Mine was Sam, fairly new guy there but very pleasant to work with.
Glad they put new tires on her. Thought L certification wasn’t possible b/c car is past the age where OEM warranty ran out already.

let me know if you have any questions on the vehicle. Happy to help.

Congrats! Wow that was fast! I even predicted they would sell it for $43K LOL

p.s. Use Sport+/Manual mode with TVD in slalom mode. For city driving, that is the best one I use.

Found a wheel/lug nut key in the trunk. You need it back? I cant find an option to PM you. If you need it I will get my number to you. I worked with Cesar. He is a car nut. Raced Formula 2 and some other open wheel cars in Argentina. We talked for way to long about racing as I used to race motorcycles and have done a few track days in my BRZ. The dealership was pretty good. I never got that feeling like I was dealing with slime *****. The deal we worked out over the phone was what they honored. Decided to take her up to the Blue Ridge Mountains today. She's and handful in the tight stuff! Wants to go sideways outta every turn, and even into turns as I tipped it in!

Let me know if you need that wheel key.

Thanks for the info. I used Eco for the 600 miles home. Was expecting 22/23 MPG but got 27.9. This was the computer doing the math so I do not know how accurate it is. My only other question is, does everyone try to race you? Ive had the RCF for 2 days and Ive hammered a Q60 Redsport on I85 in Georgia, Audi RS5 was dead nuts tie from 40/110 pull and all types of Civic's and Subaru's. For some reason the American muscle guys don't want to play.

Awesome. I read you feel the rear end wants to kick out of every turn while exiting corners. You have brand new Pirelli tires so they are breaking in and with a full exhaust, you are putting out close to 500 HP to the rear so it will be easy to overpower the rear tires. I have very sticky Pilot Sport 4S tires and when they are not warmed up, the tail will kick out especially with the TVD putting more torque out of the turns especially to the outer rear wheel.

Regarding people trying to race, yes I get that all the time from Mazda 3 with loud ricer exhausts to Corvettes (C6). I usually ignore as my days of street racing (I also came from the sport compact world when I used to modify my Corolla XRS in my 20s and had a lot of races) are over.

With two little kids and family etc. I am in my early 40s so I have grown out of it. I just ignore them except a few times. A modified Subaru STi which was tail gating me entering a fly-over sweeping exit, whom I stomped and left far behind and the closest one I had was with a Corvette C6 on the freeway from a 50 mph roll and it was dead even. Majority of times, I simply ignore as they are trying to admire it so I take it as a complement. A friend of mine who recently bought a Tesla model Y wants to race me, but I told him no. Although, I believe from a 2nd gear/50 mph rolling start I will walk away easily. Another office colleague has a 750 sport bike who asked me for a roll and I told him no.

I am surprised the RS5 hung even if it was the older 4.2 Liter V8, which is slow from a roll. They launch great with AWD, RCF with that top end from a roll walks away easily from those. Anyway, the best rolling race for RCF is around 45 - 50 mph and to be in 2nd gear holding. It is right in the peak of the powerband of 5500 rpm and in the right gear. Cheers!
