So I just had my rear brake pads changed at the dealer; picked it up and noticed one of them had a lot of the caliper paint chipped off, or at least the clear coat. It was definitely not like this before as I'm hyper OCD and **** about detailing and would've noticed. Dealer is telling me its standard wear and tear since they're "high performance brakes" and get very hot and all this bull**** and basically told me to call Lexus and see if they'll replace it. Anyone had this happen or just have "standard wear and tear" with caliper paint chipping off. Complete bull**** to me and I told them it was unacceptable and that is not standard wear and tear.
Ah damn, yea I saw a few ISF guys post about it but haven't seen any RCF posts regarding this so was thinking maybe they'd improved the formula or technique for the caliper paint up to there. Should've taken some detailed pictures before. Very frustrating. Oh well; been wanting to paint the calipers yellow anyway
Thats a shame. To be honest, painted calipers don't really matter all that much to me. It is true, the calipers do get hot, and the paint does flake. It does come with high performance brakes. Like what flow said, just find a shop to paint them or try doing it yourself
Yea i can understand a small chip here and there but literally half the caliper is missing paint. Still going back and forth with them and getting Lexus customer relations involved. Was explaining that yes I understand normal wear and tear but the brembo calipers are part of the aesthetic of a high performance car. I wouldn't ask them to repair chips in the bumper or hood, or a scratch here and there, I get that, but this is just careless. And then they told me I must've done it and didn't notice. Wife and I have purchased cars from this dealership, I had all 4 tires and brakes done as part of the service which I easily could've done at one of numerous Lexus mechanics in the area, and they're brushing me off like we're at an off the road used car lot. HR said they'll get in touch after the weekend so will update.
Speaking of Calipers, what is the breakdown of painted calipers? My 2015 Nebula Grey doesn't have them the calipers are just a similar grey. Were they ever standard on any years of the RCF or is it something people do afterward?

2015 were all Black with Lexus logo. 2016+ there was a $300 orange caliper upgrade option, standard is still black but with F logo. 2020+ adds a third option - carbon brakes get red calipers (Track/Fugi/whatever they call it next year), black (standard) or orange upgrade for the normal ones.
I painted mine, noticed a pretty good chip after getting work done recently. Seems techs just have a habit of letting wheels rest on the calipers while installing/removing wheels.
I've got a chip or two just from road debris (pebbles, rocks) I guess unluckily hitting them over the years. I'm very careful not to chip them myself when taking the wheels on and off.
