Nothing to do today so I started checking the various car sites checking out RCF pricing. I know that asking prices aren't sales prices, but the asking prices seem higher than I would have expected. I even did a KBB what's my car worth check and was found that consistent with the prices for cars for sale. The trade in value was close to what I paid for my RCF 15 months ago. Covid has probably slowed the mileage growth on many cars, mine included. Mine is not for sale, but it makes me wonder if the depreciation curve will grow going forward. Just musing here
I think with such low production the car is pretty rare. So you get some supply and demand working for the higher values. Low supply and decent demand keep the prices higher. Just my speculation. This maybe a car that goes up in years to come due to low production.
When I bought mine I was not sure what to think about the car. Having owned it for a couple years I really do not want to sell it. The car has some special quality that does not come across until you own one. Really an incredible combination of performance, quality, and reliability. I really can never get enough of revving out the V-8. The engine on this car is something special.
If you want some real world price and sale info from my search I have a few examples, all 2015:
Considered a private party 15,000 mile Silver all options with a 2 year lexus platinum extended warranty I think for also 50,000 miles that was 42,000, it was in mint mint condition.
Considered a 38,000 Ford Dealer mile blue all option that was in 7 out of 10 condition, 1 scratch and many dings on the carbon fiber roof, scratches all over the interior black parts and the nav screen, got that down to 37,900, but walked away when I saw it in person.
Settled on a 73,000 mile lexus dealer CPO with moonroof, not a tvd, gray/red that was in fantastic condition even considering the miles, even better than almost every used one I had seen except the 15,000 mile one, started at the dealer for 37,999 and sat for about a month and a half, I got it down to $35,640ish (forgot the last 2 digits, probably some lexus clearance code) and bought it late December. Love the car and the unlimited mile warranty since I am going to drive it...a....lot.
Recently, in my city exactly an RCF like mine (the only other molten pearl carbon/TVD) in my city with 31K miles sold basically for the same price I paid 4 years ago in 2017 for my RCF. Dealership claimed It had $10K in mods, but I strongly doubt it adds up. It was lady driven by a tanning salon owner since brand new in 2015, but mine has only 10K miles on it so mine is almost brand new. I was pleasantly surprised RCFs in my city seem to be holding well in terms of value mostly because they are extremely rare here.
This is a video of the car made by the dealership that sold it.
Good catch. I was wondering about the paint as I was thinking it has matte in it. I guess, it has a wrap on it in matte Molten Pearl so it must be a different OEM color. That means, I still might potentially have the only OEM Molten Pearl in my city.

i do think the rcf will hold up long term, though the initial hit is kind of steep. but covid has made everything screwy price wise. all my cars have gone up in value. a gx460 lease that my wife hated went from 5k negative equity to positive 2k in a matter of months so she was happy to pocket the cash. my volvo wagon barely depreciated which normally falls of a cliff. hell the porsche i never planned on selling went up 10k, makes me want to cash out.
I've got some insight into the wholesale/retail market, the retail market will start to drop, the wholesale has already, now RCF are different, unique, but there are a lot of them that sit unsold for awhile. Trucks, SUVs, Porsches will not drop as much as an RCF might. To add to the modified angle, I missed out on one in Dallas in November with 50,000 miles that sold for $39,500, Red/Black all options including TVD, Borla exhaust, Takeda intake, some brand of springs/struts that could be raised and lowered, and a JL subwoofer setup with amp. In general, don't jump all over me, but in general, aftermarket mods do not increase the price much unless you do person to person sales and find that right person who just loves all the mods that were done. You can look and see some private party RCF for sale on autotrader that have been there for more than 3 months with mods and the seller says "not in a hurry" "no negotiation" etc., but they don't sell because the seller over-values the mods in the resale market.

It's a clear matte film... It's more a PPF than a wrap
I do often browse used car sites and check out kbb from time to time when I’m bored, the prices do seem to be holding well for sure. Kbb isn’t too far off what I paid for my F when I purchased it a few years ago with close to 13k Miles. No future plans on selling my RCF fortunately.
Price has been holding for at least 2 years now. I've been searching for one and hoping prices would come down to 20-30k CAD
The way it is trending right now, it will be a very high mileage RCF in the next few years to get into the 30s CAD. The ISF prices are certainly like that where 100+K KM ISFs only dip into the 20s CAD or in the teens.
According to my market research, used 2015 - 2016 RCFs with low mileages (below 20K KM) are going in the 60s CAD. The 2017+ asking prices are higher with low mileage. The ones that have 40K to 50K KM are going for around miid to high 50s CAD on the average. There are couple I saw with higher mileage ones in Ontario that are in the high-40s, but they have much higher than 50K KM. This also does not take into account their condition, maintenance, wear and tear etc. that also affects pricing.
There are some available in the east so there is better pricing, but here in Alberta, there are none for sale simply because of the rarity.

Being that it is a rare car you should look beyond Canada for the real market value. I think the one that I passed on that sold for between $41-42,000 USD which is about $53,000 CAD at today's conversion rate really sets the market. He was the original owner, zero accidents. This guy had it for a 4th car in his collection so it had around 14,000 miles, every option, zero imperfections, like absolutely new with that extra platinum Lexus 0 deductible warranty for 2 extra years or 50,000 miles. I did look at it and it was basically as new, flawless. They are holding well, but I'm not sure they will go the way of the ISF.

Yeah. I was only talking about the local market as it is the one I can understand the best. It was response to him talking in CAD. In the US, everything is completely different. We have a fraction of the inventory you have in the US. Also, where I live, I have never seen another RCF on the road. I see an ISF every once in a while, but never seen another RCF.
