Default Borla....Exhaust valve add-on

Here is the story. After being in touch with Josh for a week, watching every RCF exhaust vid I could find and reading any post about exhaust here on the forum I brought Borla. I fell in love with the sound, yet I'm concern about disturbing the peace everyday on start-up. While waiting for delivery I researched valved exhaust and found something GOOD! The Armytrix system uses valves and vacuum lines no different than a "WIRELESS Exhaust Controller Vacuum Valve" kit on sell via Eb... AND A..Express. Of the two outlets on the mufflers, Armytrix welded a diaphragm valve on the straight-through pipe. Borla's mufflers have the same straight-through outlet concept, therefore welding a exhaust valve would yield the same results. C6 Corvetts' and ZL1 Camaros' NPP system works the same as I stated. The Chevy guys have done this mod to their aftermarket and stock mufflers.

The vacuum lines installation seems simple to do and with the kit you get a wireless remote. I've found five ways to get the valves to work.
1) Manually adjust the valves to your setting with a cable and forget it
2)Run a Dorman vacuum pump to the valves to control them with a switch
3)Tap the vacuum line on the manifold and allow pressure do the work
4)Corvette headlight vacuum switch to control the valves manually
5)ArmytrixISH---Use engine vacuum and the wireless remote to control the valves

(I will label the pics according to the method used)

Must admit- Im impressed with your ingenuity man! Putting that Valve on a Borla makes great sense since they tend to run on the LOUD side. Not entirely sure what you mean by a "Wireless" system on the Armytrix? It came w vacuum lines that run up to an actuator like in your diagram. The only "wireless" thing I can think of is the App used on your cell phone which can Open/Close and monitor about 20 different things on the car. To be honest, I could never get the App/Phone to connect to my system - but the Valve Remote Control works fine.
Which Model G-Lock do ya own? (Avid fan since 1st Gen many years ago!)

Thanks Gunny for the information.
FYI: none of those pictures are of anything I own ( I got them off the web).
In reference to wireless control, I'm speaking of the button remote that comes with the Kit and the Armytrix.

One thing I like about forums is how informed many are and the willingness to help. I can use it.....

Hey Flowrider, if all goes well I'm looking to get this project done for $1800. That leveas me more to spend on my wish list of mods. PPE is nice.

I used Koruworks up in Marietta for full exhaust install and some minor welding to make sure no leaks. Good shop, fair pricing and good guys all around.

For $1800 couldn’t you just find a new valved cat back system?
Seems like a ton of work still for that price.
Guess if you’re totally sold on borla and nuthin else...
More power to you if you gonna follow through with this mod.

I will agree with Mr Eun, Koru works is a good shop.
Although I haven’t used them in years and I think some personnel have changed.
Back when I used them, I had a great experience.

Default forward exhaust gaskets

Thanks guys for the shop reference. I'll get over there soon for a pro's advice about my plan. Saturday I installed the Borla and let me say, Man that thing rocks the house on cold start, but sounds mild when driving. My dad had a 60? GTO (headers and straight pipes) and this exhaust reminded me of that car the first time I started the RCF. #valves please work

FYI: Do to a number of guys having issues with the gaskets after installing exhaust systems, I replaced both forward gaskets. These are brass looking rings with a coating on both sides PT#(90917-06070). After crushing them and burning off some off the coating, they sure look like they are good for one time use only. You be the judge.

new gaskets are not as round as the old

new coating vs old coating

Actually the first year for the GTO was 1964. I had three of them.

I have the Borla and even though i love it, cold start can be a bit much. RR racing bazooka exhaust can be combined with borla to have best of both worlds.

We do have a Valvetronic axle back that connects right to the Borla.

i love my borla, especially 4am cold starts in the garage lol. My neighbors can suck it since they didn't pay for half of a fence. Next step to making it even louder, PPE headers!
