Why not do this for the intake??

Is pulling air from the hood vent ruled out as an option? With a well designed water trap you could drive through a monsoon, just letting the water drain into the engine bay.

I'd have to do some drawing, but it should be possible to build a modular duct that mates to the hood vent, runs over the existing (or aftermarket) intake tube, with a modular air box adapter that can be shaped to mate with the stock air flap or an aftermarket box.

Only potential problem with that idea is that if Lexus put that vent into the hood with any function in mind, then at speed, there will be a negative pressure zone above that vent, which is not exactly the best thing for air induction. That said, you could get an STi scoop and that will help ram the air to the box next thing you know there will be a rush of Subie owners buying RCFs
