RC-F Audio Issues
I've seen a few posts regarding this topic and I am also experiencing the exact same issue as many others, however a lot of the posts I've seen have left out some details so I wanted to make this post to consolidate all the things I've run in to and tried.
My RC-F is a 2015 with the Mark Levinson package
Issue:
Audio from speakers intermittently working.
Most commonly this happens on the first start of the day. It can last multiple power cycles, audio could come back the 2nd time you turn the car on, or even just work the first time you start the car.
This impacts every single audio input from the car. All menu noises (chimes when switching between options and selecting menus) and every audio source is impacted.
In my experience once the audio is working, it stays working until the car sits for an extended period of time. In my case anything greater than about 12 hours.
Partial Fix:
I've found that you do not need to turn the car on to temporarily resolve this issue, simply power cycling the ignition will do the trick it just sometimes takes many attempts to do so. Albeit very annoying it is the only way I have found so far to get it to work when I need it to.
My Process is turn accessory power on, wait for system to boot, move trackpad around to listen for audio cues. If there is none, turn the accessory power off, open the door and close it, and repeat the process until you have audio.
Diagnostics I've Done:
1.) A hard reset will never fix this issue. (Holding down power button to restart entire infotainment system/audio system). I've tried this multiple times throughout a 1 hour drive where the audio was not working and not once did it fix the issue. Once the car was turned off, and turned back on the audio started working again.
2.) My amplifier has no visible moisture buildup around it, however I do live in south GA in the USA, so we do have some days where outside temps reach +100°F with the temps inside the vehicle being upwards of 20°F hotter than that. I thought the AMP may be starting in a protect mode due to overheating issues so I removed the floor cover on the AMP to promote a bit more air flow and give the AMP more breathing room. This seemed to make no difference whatsoever but it was worth a shot. However, on cooler days it does seem to turn on more consistently so I MAY be on to something there or I could just be imagining it.
3.) Visual inspection of all fuses checked good, as well as all visible wiring looked undamaged as well.
Thoughts:
The general consensus seems to be this is an AMP related issue and I'm inclined to agree. With the placement of the AMP being directly above a muffler, as well as having the vent to potentially allow the outside elements where they shouldn't be it makes sense. I have seen a handful of posts on this forum as well as others that state that even an AMP replacement didn't resolve their issue which is what I'm fearing.
I want to add Apple CarPlay functionality to the car and was tempted to order this model from Beat Sonic before attempting any physical repairs to see if for some reason it may resolve the issue however I have major doubts that it will change anything.
I would love to hear if anyone else has gathered more information on this topic than I have, or has gotten any sort of good answers from a dealership or professional audio shop.
Also if anyone has done away with the Mark Levinson AMP and went with an aftermarket AMP how did that work? Is it even feasible to do so with the 17 speaker system in this car?
