Key fobs draining battery?
My 2015 RCF and key fobs are both stored in my garage. I have a battery that is only 1 year old. I have noticed that the RC F battery gets drained over time if I am on vacation, or just don't drive the RC F for a while.
After looking at other CL forums, there seems to be some belief that if key fobs are in close proximity to the RC F when it is parked, the RC F key radio will constantly communicate with the fobs, and thus drain the car battery.
Have any of you experienced this?
I plan on storing my keys away from the RC F to see if this stops this from happening.
I am aware that the key fobs can be turned off as described in the owners manual.
Regards,
Sagane

Yes, it is a fact and not a generic "belief" and this issue isn't unique to the RCF either. Any proximity keys stored near the car will continue to "ping" and wake up the car causing battery drain on the car as well as the fob batteries.
Store keys away from the vehicle. Range is usually more than 15 feet away, so not in the garage or near the garage door if it's attached to the house.
Turning the keys off helps with the life of the fob battery, but isn't a reliable substitute for the habit of keeping keys near the car since it's easy to forget to "turn off" the keys.

You need to store the fobs far enough away or the car "wakes" into a more power-draining mode where it's communicating w/ the key. Even when stored far away, the car searches for the key if it's locked (unsure about unlocked). Goes for all smart key cars unless you disable the smart key. If you park for an extended period like at the airport, I advise disabling the smart key.
