Default D3 Performance Tune 8AR-FTS

Previously I had a BMS Stage 1 tune followed by an Orange Virus Tune.

Let me first say that my OVTune worked great, but the service and support by Orange Virus was pathetic and he ended up ghosting everyone and did not provide the purchased agreed to map updates. Some members had problems with their tune but mine was great until I went back to stock to go to the dealer. When I tried to reflash, the files were corrupted.

Anyway, I purchased a D3 Performance tune for my RC300 (turbo). So far it's been great, removed a lot of the throttle lag and boost lag, not 100% removal but definitely improved. I had a major drone between 2000-3000 rpms but the tunes seemed to have mellowed a lot of it out. I am very pleased with the performance so far.

The customer service has also been top notch.

Any HP/TQ numbers? My issue was that once you approach the ~300 hp-ish mark with the 8ar-fts, the cooling is not sufficient with that tiny water intercooler, and it starts to pull timing and hp...

I don't think you'll see much in terms of a peak hp gain, the main benefit with these tunes is the torque and subsequent mathematical hp increase under the curve as well as increased throttle response and transmission tuning to always be in that peak torque range.

Once my warranty is up I will install a progressive water/meth injection system to supplement the cooling system. That is a proven solution on nearly every turbo engine and a worthy venture.

Followed the same path as tnilc.

Was an early adopter of OVTune for the 8ARFTS for my IS200t.
Became very frustrated when they decided to leave behind the legacy users and discontinued the licensing system therefore locking your car to whatever it is on.
You became stuck on their tune or locked out of it.
There were a few users also stuck in the 3rd gen Tacoma forums, OVTune promised they would release a separate software package to allow flashing again.
Not sure where that is at.

Decided to try D3' tune and so far so good, been running +6months on the 93 Enhanced Throttle.
The included device solves all the problem I previously had with OVTune.
Performance "feels" better and have experienced 0 engine anomalies or issues.
They are also somewhat local to me, which is always a plus.
Overall, a very happy satisfied customer and improves alot over stock.

Really they blocked the flash?

I had to go to the dealer, so I flashed back to stock. When I tried to flash back, it wouldn't let me and there was some error.

I wonder if we should all get together and demand a refund or partial refund for the lack of services rendered. Part of the purchase was support and updated flash tunes and we never got that.

Question ? Are you using the d3 tuner or the tuning software. I have a 2019 RC 300 turbo as well. I’m seriously considering the d3. But not sure which product I should go with. Looks like the software has access to adjust a whole lot systems. Tuning wizard presets are more my skill level then custom tuning. The tuner looks way simpler, but it doesn’t really go into detail about what systems are accessible. I’ve done the Racechip, the JB4. They were both ok. But very limited in what they affect. I just don’t want to buy the tuner Ian’s find out it is basically the same thing. Any input from experience would be greatly appreciated.

Get the tuner, the tunes that come loaded with it are perfect in my opinion. I have an earlier version that has both the canned tunes and access to the laptop software to tweak or make custom tunes. I never bothered with the custom side since the canned tunes are so good.

It was a huge step up from the JB4 in terms of when the boost arrives, how much boost is delivered/held through the rpm range and throttle and transmission tuning. My favorite part is the ability to easily switch drive modes from Eco/Normal/Sport and have a different experience in each.

The tuner device has everything preset with tunes to choose from. D3 will also update it with more revised tunes and they work on more cars at their shop.

If you want more custom tunes, then you need the tuning software and a tuner to create your tune, this can be costly. A lot of tuners charge $300-400 for a tune and if you use a dyno, you have to rent the dyno if they don't have one themselves.

I am using the last tune, the 93 octane enhanced tune, it is extremely responsive in Sport+ mode that it caught me off guard when I tried to accelerate from a right turn.

Update is available, haven't had a chance to update to it yet.

Still doing research on trying to find a way to save my stock base ecu flash.

does the tune maps show a option for 91 octane? Where I live 91 is usually the highest.
