Does anybody know what this is for? It is located inside the Gas tank fuel refueling area. It looks like it hold something??? but I can't see what it could be useful for?
Just to add...don’t lock lock your doors before opening the tank or while fueling. If locked, you will lock the tank and will not be able to open it if it is closed. Neither would you be able to close it if it is open.
To protect valuables while fueling, lock the door after you open the tank and then unlock the door after you close the ”turn cap”.
NEW is correct and his advice easy to follow, as you should never walk away from your car while it is fueling. (In many places that's a violation of state law.) So you can leave the car unlocked as you stand there while the tank fills. If you want to stock up on turkey jerky, try the lotto or some of that tasty gas station sushi, or if you have to take a whizz, lock the car after you remove the gas pump from your car.
Don't forget to wash your hands.
Have you guys ever seen someone gas up WHILE the car is RUNNING? I saw someone do this the other day...defies logic.
I actually do this in the winter when it is Butt *** Cold! I don't think it really matters...some newer "state of the art" cars have a sensor that can tell if the car is running and the gas cap is off.... Sometimes could throw a CEL code! never happened to me tho.
But I have to say it isn't anymore dangerous than talking on your cell phone while your pumping gas either... I see more people doing that than leaving the car running.
Honestly.... back in the Old days, when you had a gas key to unlock the gas cap on your car...(if you didn't want your gas siphoned out) ...you would have to stop the engine and use the keys to open your gas cap.... so I think that is where we became so trained to turn your engine off to refuel.
Why do Planes fuel up with their engines running right next to the terminal where people are at? And Fighter Jets in Mid-air? Hmmm? Interesting question....I googled it and got a couple of links. I do think that Safety is very important... but I see this all the time when I get gas.
I’m no expert, but I don’t think you can make a fair comparison between how gasoline and jet fuel are each handled.
I know...sorry I was just trying to stretch for something similar, but dangerous. I'm just playing Devils Advocate...I know it is all for everybody's safety not just your own.
