Default Trickle charging through the winter

I'm considering winter storing my RC and would like to know if anyone has done the same and left it on a trickle charger. Any longterm side effects/important things to consider when doing this? Any brand/trickle charger recommendations also appreciated.

Thanks

I trickle charged my battery for the last few weeks of summer while i was gone. I removed the battery from the car and hooked it up to the tender. I used the BatteryTender brand. the green and yellow packaging on amazon...

I used the Battery Tender Junior over two winters on my RC350. At 750MA it is more than enough power to keep a battery topped up and automatically prevents overcharging.
I hard wired it to the battery using the supplied connectors and simply unplug it from the battery when I need to use the car.
One note, my remote start won't start the car while the battery tender is plugged in. The remote start circutry must check the battery voltage as part of the starting process.

There is a difference between a trickle charger and a "Battery Tender" (which is a brand name; there are other such products, also). A trickle charger does not shut itself off. There are several brands of battery tenders which are designed for long term storage - they turn off the charging when the battery gets a full charge, and start again when the charge goes down. They are designed for your purpose, as a battery can be damaged if overcharged. I used a Battery Tender for many winters on my SC430. I have friends with motorcycles and they keep then on a tender over the winter. Also, you might want to dump some gas stabilizer into the tank.
