Default Clay bar FTW!

My wife's newish vehicle appears to have never been waxed since it was brand new. I could feel the upward facing body panels to have what felt like over spray or just generally not perfectly smooth.

I took the orbital buffer to it with a good carnuba paste wax. That barely even removed the small bumps you could feel. I went to the swirl remover and it wasn't much better. I then tried the light cut rubbing compound. It brought back the smooth silkiness feel of the paint, but it still had those little bumps. That is when I was pretty sure it was a form of over spray. So I bought a clay bar kit from the auto parts store.

It was raining a little when I got home. I washed the rear hatch and dried it off. Took the clay bar to the top section for all of 1.5 - 2 min. 95% of all the bumps were gone. The funny thing that I didn't expect is that the clay bar was very light gray. After cleaning one section of the rear hatch, the part of the clay that I used on the vehicle had a tan color to it. Not only does this stuff remove the over spray...it removed any left on dirt & whatever else was there. I cant wait to do the rest of her lexus

you probably didn't remove overspray. it was more than likely fallout from the environment that clings to the paint if you don't clean it properly. almost all cars on the road do this. unless you are really **** about taking care of your car, like I am. clay bars have been around for years, and work very very well. also, you can use a chemical such as Iron Out, or Sonax Iron Remover or Griot's Fallout and Iron Remover. these products are actually pretty good. I use a chemical fallout remover every 3 months, then after it's dried I clay bar to remove any particles the chemical don't take care of. then I use a professional wax or sealant with my orbital buffer (I only use sealer once a year though).
