Default Rear Wheel-well Caulking Recall

Got a notice in the mail that some of the RC's were rusting around the rear wheel wells. Took it in to the dealer today as part of a recall and they said mine had not started rusting, but did require sealant be placed to stop moisture from getting where rust could start. Anyone know exactly what they are doing to fix this problem? At least I got a free tank of gas and a wash.

Default Caulking recall

Paqman -

What year is your RC? I am waiting for a 2017 RC 350 Fsport delivery and I sure hope this has been addressed. When did you get the letter?
Did the dealer state how they are suppose to correct the issue if the rust already started?
The best to you.

I have a 2015. The letter said that if rust was present, they would correct it including paint/body repair. I got the letter two weeks ago. According to the service manager, Lexus developed a sealant that they smear into the fender arch where water intrusion may occur. After the correction was done, I looked at the rear wheel arch area to see where and what they did, but didn't see anything different. I guess I may have to jack it up and remove the wheel to see better into the fender arch area. I was hoping others on this forum would know precisely where to look for the problem.

I have one of the first models. My impression is that everybody gets the letter, at least up to the very newest cars where this modification would be done at the factory. Rust in wheel wells is not a new phenomenon. As I recall from the letter, Lexus will look over the car and if there is no rust present or starting to form, they will apply a sealant and prevent the problem from developing. If your car has any indicia of rist or incipient rust, they will fix the rust and then fix the fender like the others. Since rust like this in this location usually takes a few years at least to manifest itself, my guess is that few of us have any actual rust, unless perhaps the car is parked outside all the time in a wet climate.
