sidewall dmg...
So... took a look at my wheels... noticed some of the sidewall has been slashed but not breached... was told by a friend who looked at it to just do a patch job since these michelin tires are z rated.... other friends are saying to replace the tire meaning replace the set (only been driven on for 8k miles)
An explanation as to what could have happened is that metal may have slashed the tire... construction ftw!
So... again tire wall has not been breached but seeking advice... replace the tire? or patch it? thanks guys

What you are not supposed to do is mix a new tire with a used tire as they have different wear patterns, and you are not supposed to mix two different brands on the same axle.
The only thing now is that you'll have 2 brand new tires and 2 used tires on the car. Look at this way, it will be cheaper to buy tires since you'll only be buying 2 at a time.
If having all 4 tires new means that much then go for it, but you don't have to is what I'm saying.

Definitely replace in a set of two, and use the extra for a spare in case you have another situation with another tire. Never try to repair a sidewall damage, plus any reputable tire shop won't repair it anyways. Not worth the risk.

It is always recommended that you replace two tires at the same time because the circumference is going to be different.
Unfotunately, you can NOT repair any tire if theres a damage in the sidewall of the tire.
Go to a near by tire shop and ask them to measure the tread depth for you and if the tire reads more than 7/32nds of an inch you should be able to get away with just one tire.
If, than 7 I would recommend replacing both.

I thought a tire shop could shave a new tire to match the diameter of the old tire?? Then you would be back on schedule for all 4 tires to wear out at the same time.
