Default Hypothetical exhaust question... muffler delete

Hello,

Since I leased my car and don't want to hack up the stock exhaust.

The RC, GS, and IS 350 (Awd or RWD), all have the same exhaust (minus the tips (RC and GS) are the same part #. I confirmed this just now with Lexus parts department.

If I purchase someones stock RC, GS, IS exhaust - the axleback portion and put on the quad tips. Would I be able to do a muffler delete? Or is the muffler delete farther up toward the cats?

why don't you just hit a local muffler shop and have them put some pipes and tips on instead? probably a cheaper alternative.

I guess its similar.

I can get a shop to make an axleback... or I was thinking take a stock exhaust, do a muffler delete and add tips.

I didn't want to play around with mufflers though, and like how the car sounds with a muffler delete.

Do you know when they do a muffler delete, is it in the axleback area, or is it more toward the cats?

I did this. Purchased a stock IS350 axleback, deleted the mufflers and added quad tips. Its a perfect bolt on application and when my lease is up I will still be able to remove it and install my stock RC axleback. Extremely happy I went this route.

Perfect. That answers my question, with an axleback (from an RC, IS, or GS), I can do that and just muffler delete and weld on quad tips.

Did you buy the IS 350 axleback from someone or dealer, and what did you pay?

Do you mind sharing what the place charged to do the muffler delete, weld on tips and install?

Thanks for your help!

Also did you use megan tips or what kind? All the ones i have found are 2.5 inch piping. I think stock exhaust is 2.25 but the 2.5 still works.

Thanks again

I purchased a slightly used axleback off of a forum member on here for $150. Any muffler shop can tackle the project, but if you want it to have a good quality fit and finish than I would pay a little more to have it done by a reputable shop. I had the tips welded on slightly angled as well. Here is the link:

has anyone tried this and does it work / sound properly?

or would i have to purchase a stock IS350 axleback, cut that muffler, and then bolt it onto my rc350?

I imagine it would be the same result.. just a longer process since they would have to start from scratch to fabricate the bolt on portion, as well as the pipes.. Also it may be more expensive this way. I would just try to find a used axle back like FR500GT did.

oh, i see. that is true. I've looked around and I couldn't really find a stock IS350 axle back yet. Does it have to be the IS350 model?

No, it could come off another RC350 or 200t.. I would try finding someone who has a bolt on exhaust, I am sure they kept their stock pipes and may be willing to sell. You could try the classified section or something! Hope you find one soon man.
