I finally got my iPhone 6s to mirror to the navi screen using the Lightning to HDMI adapter and HDMI to RCA adapter along with the apple 3.5mm to RCA cable.

What's the purpose? Does the touchpad interface with it?

It doesn't. I can use the phone navigation on the big screen rather mount the phone on the dash with the small screen. Plus you can use Siri to control the phone (to some degree).
