ML sound drops out
Still fixing this exact problem. Speakers POP, audio cuts out, display still looks like there's audio playing, but no audio output. No CD, no radio, no direct USB, no bluetooth. I can turn the car off, then re start it and the audio works again, and not until then. I can duplicate this problem (Marcus Miller, "Poppa was rolling stone", volume above 40, really recreates it). So far, dealer has replaced a wiring harness ($8k) and 3 speakers. I picked it up today. Within 3 minutes it happened again. I had to continue on my way to work. I believe they'll be replacing a(n) Amplifier next. Still under warranty but not for long.
Hey Matt,
I just picked up my car last weekend and this happened to me on the way home. Whenever it happened, I heard a popping sound from the speakers and then all audio would go out - no radio, no nav lady, no voice recognition. Then randomly, it would pop and then come back. Needless to say, I took it right back to the dealership the next day. Turns out that one of the amps for the ML system was bad and they had to order a new amp from the factory for it. Once they put in the new amp, the problem went away for me.
It sounds like you probably have the same problem. You should definitely take it in to the dealership and have them look at it. Since it's random and hard to reproduce, you should mention specifically to have them check the amp(s).
Hope this helps!

My dude, you are replying to 20y old posts
. Try searching the forums more, I'm sure the exact nature of this problem has been pinpointed in the meantime, and you can save your self from the hassle with the dealer replacing parts randomly...
