Thanks for all your input guys.

It will take awhile until the unit arrives from Japan. In the meantime I already placed and order on the 2 bearing that need to be replaced along with axel seals and RCF diff mount.

Also do you have PN. for the pinion seal?

Will keep you posted once I installed them.

Went to the shop today hoping to get the diff install

I can confirm that ISF/RCF Torsen will fit IS350 housing but it will not be a direct drop in.

Although, the is350/ISF Torsen share the same height and the size is somewhat similar

but the part that the ring gear is mounted to sits lower than the one in my is350 ( about 1.5cm lower ). The mechanic said if we installed the diff as it is. It will not work and it will make a lot of noise. He said and adapter need to be CNC and fit in between the ring gear and the diff to maintain the same clearance with the original diff. He also said that because this is a torsion diff form the factory, unlike the clutch pack one so there is no other place he can adjust shim thickness.

I am sorry for not using the correct term for this please see the picture I attached below

Any input form you guys? Is my mechanic knows what he is talking about?

Some updates

The shop called me today, the guy said that the adapter is now being fab at the machine shop and the thickness of the adapter is 11MM. This adapter will be mounted on the differential case.

Also there are some mod that needs to be done to the differential case in order for the adapter to fit.

They also confirmed that the diff housing need to be grinned down a little bit because the new diff is bigger than the old one

Will upload the picture once they send to me

Thanks

That's a lot of custom work, hope it's worth it.

Updates

Adapter plate is fabbed. The case was grinned down to fit the new diff.

Need to find a new set of screw that is long enough to hold the adapter and ring gear

hopefully it will be done in a few days.

I got the car back 2 weeks ago! work perfectly no noise. Now it can go sideway and traction off the line is much much better.

However, Just did a fluid change and it don't look too good in my eyes. I called the shop and showed them the picture and they say its normal and should clear up in a few oil change if I keep changing them

What do you think? Are they breaking in?

While I agree that looks bad, I also agree that it may be normal from all the clutches wearing into each other...

I'd put fresh fluid in then drive it in as many figure-8s as I can tolerate, then drop the fluid again to see if the material keeps coming off, or if everything eventually breaks in and works as intended.

Clutches?

Maybe when changing the diff fluid, a bright light and thorough inspection should be done.

Its a Torsen Diff form RCF so I don't think there are any clutch packs in it

Hm, yeah, I obviously didn't pay attention to the title there...just saw gunk without much obvious glitter and commented.

If that plug is magnetic, then that's definitely material from the gear teeth. They may be done polishing the machine chatter off the faces, or they may be set too close to each other or at an angle and will continue to self-clearance until they're loose. My course of action from above is still how I'd go: drive it in figure-8s and drop the fluid until a clearer picture develops.

I'm not really the guy to be giving good advice here, I've only welded the spiders together and sent it.
