Just purchased L-Tuned exhaust for my GS and was wondering if anybody had any good step by step instructions on the installation method. I'm trying to save as much money as possible, especially if I could install it myself. Also, for those of you who had someone else install it, how much did it cost?
There was a post by salimshah about the installation but I'm wondering if anybody else has anymore information.
Problem areas:
Breaking free the old bolts. Saturate overnight with liquid wrench.
Loosen both bolts 1/2 a turn, to ensure you can disassemble.
Limited space with no lift. (specially if the car has been lowered).
Trick:
Spin the muffler out of the rubber O ring hangers. There are two ring and one is larger than the other so remember wich came off muffler first and which came off second. Reverse the order as you hang in the new one.
Tighten the new bolts evenly to seat the gasket/flange.
When I tried to do this myself, I had no clue and once I got one muffler off, I noticed a round mesh filter like thing that's between the end of the muffler pipe and the pipe to the rest of the exhaust system. Apparently you can just pry it out if it's in the end of the muffler pipe because you'll need it for the new mufflers.
Because I wasn't sure what to do and had to drive the car the next day I put the old muffler back and had the dealer install it instead (charged 1 hour of labor - seemed reasonable), but I think I could do it myself if I tried again.
