N/A Aristo Transmission Replacement, Advice needed
[TL : DR] My transmission seems to be dead and i need to find replacement, it seems that nothing fits, but can anyone please tell me for definite which transmission/torque converter would fit right in (plug and play ) and i wouldnt need to deal with any wiring issues or anything like that?
Hello all.
I have been searching for quite some time about my issues with transmission but have come up with nothing definite, so i am reaching out to you guys in hope for help with my never-ending problems with saving this Aristo from being scrapyard material.
Awhile ago i bought a 1998, 1 owner Toyota Aristo N/A, Vertex Edition from a guy who intended to scrap it as there was too many things wrong with it. I just couldn't let it happen as i believe these cars needs to preserved and cherished, so thats where my mission begins lol.
After sorting out suspension and exterior and interior bits that needed urgent attention i have now directed my attention to Transmission.
Problem: Transmission seems to shift hard from time to time, feels like its slipping ( not too majorly though ) and sometimes when you come to stop. e.g. ar roundabout, when you press gas pedal, nothing happens its just rev up and only start to move forward very slowly. After 3-4 seconds it sort of jerks/jolts forward and drives away more or less normally. Also sometimes going around 40mph revs are going up and down, as if transmission couldnt decide which gear to choose.
What has been done so far: When i first bough the car problem with transmission was way worse it felt like you are almost wheel spinning all the time, so first thing i did -I have checked transmission fluid and it was very dark, so i decided to swap it out. I dropped a pan and discovered that there is quite a bit of metal shavings on magnets as they were all covered with about 1 mm layer, HOWEVER to my surprise i found oem metal filter SITTING ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PAN! with bolts sitting next to it. so obviously someone has been there before...
So following got done:
*Cleaned sump
*Cleaned and reattached filter which was very dirty
*Took out solenoids and measured resistance 5-6ohms, i dont know whether its good or not, but resistance was the same on all of them
*Cleaned solenoids and put them back
*Put the sump back on and flushed fluid out through cooler line
*Refilled with toyota fluid
*Checked speed sensor, all seems good, cleaned it and reinstalled
All of this majorly improved operation of transmission from almost undriveable, to stage as it is described at ''problem'' bit.
I have plugged it in techstream and it doesnt show any fault codes.
At this point i dont really know what to do anymore apart from swapping out transmission for another one.
I would like to think that im quite handy with spanners and could manage to do transmission swap, however i do not understand too much about electrics or auto transmissions and since im on student income i cannot afford to go to garages for diagnostics/rebuilds and need to diy this.
So i started to look for transmissions but run into even bigger problem.
Car details: 08/1997 TOYOTA ARISTO (JZS160-BEPQF) JPN 2JZGE ATM 4FC
With following transmission: A340E 30-40LS , part no: 35000-3F460,
which according to toyota parts cross reference didnt come in ANY OTHER CAR, not even in Turbo aristo, which had 35000-3F450
So I was looking into getting transmission from pre facelit Lexus GS300 mk2, but it seems that they have A650E transmissions, 35000-3F440, 35000-3F441, 35000-3F442, and it seems that they are different as well.
At this point im stomped and dont know what to do, is there any box that would be just a plug and play replacement, or worst comes to worst what exactly i need to source to put in another transmission?
Just as a side note: I have 1998 lexus gs300 ecu laying around and it seems different from my aristo ecu, as it has one extra plug coming to it. I know my Aristo doesnt have security light, so could it be that its for immobilizer?
Thank you so much in advance!

I believe in your area the Altezza came with the Beams 3S-GE, so that wouldn't work either, since it wasn't a VVTI 2J like the USDM market had.
So really you are looking at finding a replacement S300 trans in your country or importing a USDM 160 trans. (which they have no value here, I can't give them away, I always give them to the local recycler for scrap metal)
Thank you so much for reply.
So you think gs300 1998-00 transmission would bolt straight in as plug and play?
Jusy double checking as someone told me that they have 2 speed sensors on box. Mine has only one.
