Are there any side effects to tuning our engines?
Hey everyone, So I recently decided that I will be purchasing the OBD Ecu tune for my 06 IS350. However I am wondering now if the tune will have any negative side effects to the cars longevity?
As you know the IS350/250 is a very reliable platform and there are many members with well over 200k miles on theirs and still running strong. But since I know that in order to tune the car for more power and higher redline, you gotta mess with the factory tuning which I assume is the reason for the reliability of our engines. Do you guys think that by me getting a tune for my car (with 130k miles) with the 7200 redline I risk screwing up my car?
I wont be taking advantage of the car and bouncing of the redline all the time, I'll mainly be keeping it in automatic unless I'm doing a pull or something. Do you think It will be fine?
Edit: I won't ever be bouncing off the redline for that matter, I'm only getting the 7200 rpm tune so that I have a little more safe space for when I'm shifting in manual mode. Bouncing off the redline in any car sounds like your trying to blow it up lol.

Based on the tuning that the folks at Lotus have done for the Evora line-up using the 2GR-FE (raising the redline to 7,200 RPM), our motor should be fine.
I put the motor with the tune under heavy abuse at the track a few months ago and so far nothing has fallen apart.
