Default Upgrade IS 250 exhaust, best choice for deep tone?

Hi,

Looking to upgrade my muffler and/or pipes.

Question, can I just upgrade the muffler from the stock IS 250 F Sport to get more deep bass or tone out of the back or do I need to upgrade the pipes too? I don't want too much noise or drone noise.

I was looking at the Magnaflow muffler or even Invidia.

I am afraid if I get into the pipes and remove the resonator, the drone will be too loud and outside noise to loud for such a nice car with only 200hp.

Thanks,

Mike

Well, after some research. looks like I will start with the Invidia Q300 Axel Back and go from there. I don't think removing the resonator would be a good idea, too loud.

I just had the Invidia Midpipe installed and think I need a little more deep tone. The upgrade helps a little, but not what I wanted.

If I add a Magnaflow muffler to the existing axel back stock pipes, would that be ok? I'd love to save the $300-$400 in stead of buying the Invidia Q300 axel back.

Thoughts?

k, got the old pipes back (the OEM) ones and the magnaflow axle back installed with the Invidia mid pipe.

Startup sounds awesome, like a V8, accelerating sounds great too, but the drone noise at 2-3k rpm might be a little too much, windows up or down, you're gonna hear it.

Sooo, mid pipe might be coming down after all. But I will give it a try for a few weeks and see.

I love the fact that I can actually hear the engine now.

Invidia mid pipe is gone and sold and just have the Magnaflow axle back (custom) installed. Startup sounds like a small v8 or an M5 BMW, sounds much better and drone is minimal.

Did you use a universal magnaflow muffler?

I currently have the Invidia cat back (mid) and I dig it. No drone at all. I'm dumping it and getting something like the ARK.

I had the Invidia midpipe, wasn't impressed until I got the Magnaflow axle back, but that combo was way too loud or aggresive, too much drone too. Sold the mid pipe and now getting rid of the Magnaflow, still too much drone. The startup with the Magnaflow Axle back was very nice but drone at 2500 to 3000 forced me to drive sport mode at 3000-4000 rpm. I really don't think automatic cars should have after market mufflers. I had a 6 speed MCS JCW with resonator delete and that was awesome, but also a stick so you could control the shifting. The IS250 loves to shift at 2000 or 2500 so it always drones out at 2000 and sits there. Bummer. Loved the engine start sound though. - Murf

Tanabe or Invidia axel backs. Not too loud, no drone no rasp, flow well. Deep tone.

I like the sound of the Tanabe. Nice deep tone without the drone when driving on the freeway.
