Gas Mileage - Eco Vs. Sport Mode
Hey guys,
I bought a 2014 IS 350 in late January. For the most part I have driven it around the city in eco mode. However, Sport mode is a lot more fun. I've been digging around the internet trying to figure out just how much better gas mileage is in eco compared to Sport mode. Does anyone know the number on this or now how effective eco mode really is? Becuase I can't really find any solid info.
Thanks!

From my experience, driving all city (stop lights every 1/4 of a mile), I get a difference of 2-3 MPG (15MPG vs 18MPG) between ECO and Sport+ by the time I have to fill up. I drove pretty aggressive when I was on Sport+, while being a grandma on ECO.

I find that there is virtually no difference in ECO and Normal mode. So i don't even go on the ECO. So from my Normal to occasional SPORT+ I get about 19-21mpg in the city.

I don't bother with eco mode. It's very difficult for me to get a valid, direct comparison between normal and sport modes, because I don't drive the same in the two modes. I suspect that if I were to drive in normal mode but drive like I do when I'm in sport, the difference wouldn't be that big.

All city driving...21 to 22mpg in normal...18mpg in sport +. Im sure that some of that difference is due to the driving style in each mode (cruising in normal...more aggressive in sport +)

I really dont understand how ppl get 20+ miles.... I drive mostly city, and on normal mode i get 15mpg according to the computer... Normally a full tank around 230miles range before the light comes up... In sport usually around 13mpg... but man i wish i could reach 20 lol, i normally go highway but for 5 to 10 min and the other 20min are city. (I like to speed tho so can't complain and with the 250 you have to push it in order to get a bit of power /= ...)

All Lexus Hybrids and many gas models now have the Drive Mode Selector with Eco, Normal & Sport. Let us differentiate this Eco as "Active" and the small green Eco light we have seen for years as "Passive" When you
act to twist the **** (or press buttons on CT & HS) the car acts differently. The transmission shifts and throttle response and A/C action all change to use less fuel. Cruise control also is modified because of the soft throttle response. The old tech green "ECO" light didn't change the car, it was trying to change the driver, driving to keep the light on improved the EPA test cycle results. VW created the ruling in the '80's with a "shift now" light for manuals.

People are forgetting that SPORT mode is for SPORT driving, not for everyday "spirited" driving.
Leaving your car on SPORT mode all the time is a bad idea. You will be causing a lot more wear and stress on your engine than necessary.
Leave your cars on NORMAL mode for crying out loud. Leave SPORT for the track!

You can always throw it into M and shift to 8th yourself which gives you the efficiency of 8 gears and the quick throttle response of Sport+ in case you need to drop down and pass someone quickly.

Even ISF owners are getting the same or even better range than 250 miles.

To get optimum mpg, check your tire pressure, perform full synthetic oil change, clean air filter, put in premium gas, and change driving behavior. Reset the computer and you will see the difference.
