Default PLEASE HELP! IS250 won't shift out of 3rd code P0125, P2757

All, thanks in advance for the replies. In serious need of advice as we just recently moved, am in the process of selling our old home, and bogged down with the expenses of the new home... wah was way, I know.

Anyway, car got the engine carbon extended warranty fix (pistons, etc.) at 185,000 about 8 months ago. Ever since then, my car has occasionally shifted a little odd from 1-2 (and sometimes from 2-3 although thats a lot rarer), doesn't matter if hot or cold, but it would hesitate to shift and rev higher than normal in 1st and then shift into 2nd, sometimes the shift being a little harsh. I asked my tech a few months after the fix and he said maybe the tranny was re-learning how I drive since the piston fix, but it never went away and right around the day he left the dealership for a new job he said it could just need a software update, and if that didn't work a month into it then get a transmission flush service (never been done, book says not to, couple techs told me not to, my mechanic says do it every 60k, so who the hell knows)...

Had a check engine light come on a couple weeks ago, figured it was the gas cap, took it to my smog guy and he said there were two codes:

1) p0125: "insufficient coolant temp for closed loop fuel control"
2) p2757: "torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid control circuit performance/stuck off"

Check engine has been off most of the time.

TODAY: driving to work, getting on the highway, car won't shift from 3rd to 4th... I take the first exit, shut it off, turn it back on, on-ramp and its shifting 123456... once in 6th, a few moments later it shifts to third and the check engine and VSC lights came on. Got it towed to the dealer, and he thinks its the transmission. Brushed off any suggestion that the engine/piston fix several months ago could have caused any problem, when in reality it happened right when I got it back (could be coincidence, who knows).

Any idea what is wrong? Sorry for the long-winded answer. The car has been great for me. Are the two codes related?!?!? PLEASE HELP!!!

Really hoping the transmission isn't out. THANKS!!!

Because of that earlier mentioned code, I'd be leaning towards the converter first. Does the car have any CELs right now? What were they? The engine fix and the trans/converter issue are just coincidental.

There have been other threads created with members having had their converters fail in one form or another. Perhaps a search on here will result you ones with similar symptoms as yours.

Just a thought, perhaps a low mileage used trans w/ converter might be a cheaper option vs what the dealership will offer. Have an import shop do the install to save you some $$$.

Thanks, man. Much appreciated.

Dealer called, pulling 4 codes: p0761, p0781, p2714, p2757, told me they all relate to the tranny shift problems, internal tranny failure, $4285.31 for a remanufactured tranny with 12 mo/unlimited warranty.

Going to take it to my mechanic who I trust (this dealer blatantly tried to rip me off a few months ago), and maybe my smog guy who said it's easy since it's RWD (he recc'd some place called LKQ, and another place, and he'll be cheap on labor), and pray for the best.

This blows, but I guess 200,000 is ok for the tranny. Too bad I got 188 in my wife's 05 RX and 248 in my 94 Mustang GT. Ugh.

Any input in terms of the problem or moving forward are greatly appreciated. Leaning towards getting it fixed (hopefully for a much lower price than 4,300) and keeping it, as it's been a BEAST without any other problems (their piston fix aside), gets great gas mileage, looks amazing still (got a top quality paint job couple years ago, rims, blacked out grill, full HID, etc etc etc)... just a bummer. Sorry for rambling and thanks again to everyone.

Does anybody recommend anyone (besides the dealer) who can take care of this, in terms of companies that either sell rebuilt or used transmissions? My mechanic is having some problems finding one. Thanks.

There's plenty online. The one I posted is the lowest cost, lowest-mileage one I found; plenty others out there though.

And LKQ is a VERY common parts yard that has nationwide locations.
