Default Weight reduction extreme ..lol

I was kinda bored so decided to compare the weight between OEM lug nuts and Rays aluminum lug nuts. My numbers might not be accurate but this is what I got. The OEM lug nuts weight 75.8 grams each. Multiply that by 20 and you get 3.342lbs.
The Rays aluminum lug nuts weight 25.5 grams each. Multiply that by 20 and you get 1.124lbs.
So the end result is 2.218lbs of weight reduction. Which I believe in rotational mass it might be more.

Yeah, if you replace the stock wheels with some light Rays/Gramlights/Volks/etc AND aluminum nuts, you'll swear you gained WHP! I was just looking at some lugs last night myself; thing is not alot of the listing say who tall the nut is. I'd like for the lugs to be flush with the surface of my "Track" wheels.

Aluminum lug nuts indeed offer extreme weight savings, especially in extreme conditions when your wheels fall off and that drops about 50lb/corner

Why would the wheels fall off if they are torqued properly?

I put a set of Works aluminum lug nuts through MANY toruqes and MANY wheel spins and MANY WHPs; never a failure or cross-thread or anything. I think it boils down to the quality of the nut itself AND user error.

I've run DURAaluminum lugs on ALL of my cars for 10 years + and never once had one come back under initial torque set. And that was on a few STi's which were tracked every weekend.

Anywho, dropping rotational mass is very beneficial. On my IS350 I've done light weight forged wheels, dura lugs and the lightest improvement of them all - 2 piece floating rotors front and rear. Night and day difference; feels like a different car.

Toss in a lightweight CF driveshaft and a stock IS350 would feel like a rocket in 1st gear.

Driveshaft shop will make one and give you a deep discount if you send in your stock one for r&d. I ran one on my IS300 and it was amazing. Last I talked with them they still don't have one for the ISx50 and ISF.

^Hard to believe they don't have one yet for the ISF! Guessing you know all of this because you already asked them about making you one?

is there a reason everyone talks about rotational mass, but no one talks about moment of inertia? After all, if your talking about increasing the rotation of a wheel as quickly as possible, isn't that more important?
