Default what kind of sc spec you looking for?

well after the srt sc and recently the rmm sc, and then all the boost values and stuff like that, i think it would be interesting. please state the spec of sc system you looking for (stay reasonable please, no 50psi boost....)

so what kind you boost you looking for?
with or without intercooler?
what type of unit (Vortech, ATI Procharger, etc.)?
hp and tq figures?
price range?

there are always a lot of companies reading these forums, so who knows, if we state them maybe they will make it

Intercooler: If it needed it.
Boost: 6-8 pounds
Unit Type: Something QUIET. Don't need to tell the damn world you've got some boost...
HP/TQ - 100 RWHP/100 TQ
Price: $3500 to $4500

6-12lbs depending on pulley size.

air to water aftercooler, you can get a universal one from vortech and weld the pipe fittings to match the application. This will keept the temps way down compaired to an air to air and take less boost to do it.

blow off valve, even @ 6 lbs the belt will wear.

ECU to get the A/F correct. (MUST)

GOOD LUCK.

Manaray hit the nail right on the head. That's pretty much what I'm looking for.

I sent and email to vortechsuperchargers.com telling them about this board and our interest in FI. They have systems for ford, chevy, and honda/acura. One thing I like about their systems is they all have CARB exeptions, meaning they are street legal here in CA.

jeffandi:

I live in So Cal, and go to SD quiet often I have the vortech V-2s super quiet supercharger w/ and air to air aftercooler. I have had the tech dept @ vortech send me info on the water/air aftercooler to make my own. A kit would run aprox 1500.00-2500 for teh S/C, 1500.00 for the aftercooler, and probably 1500 for the piping and installation. total 4500.00-5500.00 total cost maybe add 500.00 for things I may have forgot.

Roenick7,

That aftercooler looks pretty sweet in their applications. Nice, clean look as opposed to big 3" pipes snaking all over the place. We have to hook up sometime so I can see what you got.

Did your setup include higher flow injectors? Does the vortech s/c need a tap from the oil pan or is it self contained?

yup, to me street legal is pretty important. i don't wanna do something illegal if possible, and i don't wanna end up putting the sc on and off all the time.

personally i am looking for around 8lb of boost, to about 100rwhp and 100rwtq as well. prices under 5g would be good

The S/C is the RMM kit which taps the oil. the injectors were enlarged and I got an stand alone computer from split-second in irvine CA. for my fuel map and timing map.

I just got the specs for the water to air cooler from Vortech I have yet to purchase it. I need to find a location for the unit then it is a matter of $$.

This can go either way but my opinion, FWIW, is this:

Stick with the Air-to-Air intercooler. For our use at these horsepower levels you are going to get better results from air-to-air than water-to-air. You can't keep ice water in the water-air intercooler forever and once it heats up it is less efficient than an air-to-air intercooler.

BTW: With 8lbs of boost you should do much better than +100 RWHP. As for folks paying for the kits, I just don't see the folks in line to snap them up and if the RMM kit is +100 RWHP (vs. 100 crank HP) then it seems like a decent deal for ~8.5K even if you have to buy an ECU afterwards to tune. There is no other game in town in that price range.

RMM may be the only game in town however, 4lbs for 7500.00 + installation+blow-off valve + ECU programable + tune= TOO MUCH $$$$$ PER HP GAIN.

save your jack, or just buy my car! So I can get the v-10 BMW M5 in a year and a half. Or if you are happy with 310-330 RWHP @ 4lbs of boost for about 9000.00 go for it.

to heat up the water takes 18-25 min of WOT. I have yet to hit WOT for more than 13.4 sec or maybe 1.5 Min on the freeway. It also uses less hp to run, and less loss of boost (1/4lb per 10lbs boost.) HOWEVER there may be a better design for an air to air for the gs400 than what I have.

7.5lbs of boost shuold get you 360-380 RWHP depending on other mods. Which would be a 120-140RWHP gain.

RMM is the only S/C game in town...

But the S/C is not the ultimate goal, right? The ultimate goal is to go faster for less $$$. I want to post a question in a slightly different way: how fast do you want to go? What kind of 1/4 mile, or 0-60mph time do you expect with a supercharger? Are there alternative ways to get there, without a turbo or an S/C?

There are hypothetical alternatives (extrude-honing the intake, valve seat job, higher gearing, cams, etc.) Can anyone (experienced) comment on the availability/price/driveability impact of these mods?

I was reading an article on Dinan-massaged M5 (490hp N/A, higher gearing, 0-60 in 4.0 flat, 12.4 1/4, I think). He modified the engine computer chip. Now, that package is $35K, granted, but M5 market is inherently more exclusive and expensive than ours.

4.0L or 4.3L V8 should be able to move enough air for significantly more power than stock (in theory)

Vlad,

If someone would take the time to do ALL the R&D like all the people do for the BMW's, us Lexus owners would be very very happy. However we don't have five diff. publications and aftermarket magazines dedicated to performance parts like the BMW.
I tried to get pistons, crank cams,... It was from all over the US and in most cases would be one of a kind.
Can it be done? YES.
For 35K you can get the TT set up from SRT and have the same or more HP than the Dinan BMW! It will not be N/A but who cares, you will have more torque, until they come out with the V-10 monster M5.

How fast do you want to go? (that would be a great post!) I have asked this question in Highschol auto shop 12 years ago, It is like the meaning of life question there is no wrong answer. I want as much as I can have without blowing up my car, making a tube frame or ripping out the back seat
