the one thing i can tell you is that a good intake system (whether stock or aftermarket) will incorporate a velocity stack, a conical shape at the intake side, to help increase aerodynamics/reduce turbulence
Takeda, Greddy, Injen, they all seem to be rigged to a conical filter. Gives it that modded look.
I see LEMS and SARD, even some pictures of JoeZ's on the 2IS being hooked up to the stock air box.

Is there such thing as a cold air intake WITH a cone filter? Kinda like having your cake and eating it too sort of deal.
