Default 2jzge ?

Hello all, haven't posted in a while. I have a newb question about Lexus performance. I just recently bought a 4th gen GS as my daily, so I am ready to start doing exterior and motor work.

I see a lot of people talking about the 2jzgte tt swap.

Is there a direct bolt on kit for the 2jzge? I was told that the ge is a supra motor without the blowers. If this is the case, why does everybody do the 2jzgte swap?

Also did all the 2 gen gs's come with the 2jzge?

Please bare with me, I'm a mustang guy just getting into jdm performance! Lol.

You can easily do an NA-T kit on the factory 2JZGE. Yuor other option is to do a 2JZGTE swap. Depends on your local emission laws, money and desired power outupt. just go a search and you will find tons of information on both setups.

There is a lot of info around here, but just to give you some quick overview...

There were turbo and non-turbo Supras. The non-turbo model was equipped with 2JZ-GE, just like GS300. The turbo model had 2JZ-GTE, which had internals different than GE, not to mention all the turbo stuff.

You can source GTE engine from Toyota Supra (turbo version only) OR Toyota Aristo (turbo version only).
Toyota Aristo is basically a variant of Lexus GS sold exclusively on Japanese domestic market. All Aristos are RHD cars.

Nope.
GS300 comes with 2JZ-GE (3.0 liter, inline-6, N/A)
Aristo S300 also comes with 2JZ-GE
Aristo V300 comes with 2JZ-GTE (3.0 liter, inline-6, turboed) <--- this is what all people mean when talking about 'aristo swap'
GS400 comes with 1UZ (4.0 liter, V8, N/A)
GS430 comes with 3UZ (4.3 liter, V8, N/A)

Basically you can take one of two routes:
  • do the 2JZ-GTE swap. This is the easiest approach. The swap itself is rather straight forward. If you aim at power ranges around 300-400 hp, you can also take the whole drivetrain (ECU, transmission, exhaust, turbo stuff) from the donor car. If you decide to go further than 400 hp, you still have an engine designed for turbocharging from factory. This saves some work and money.
  • OR build your original 2JZ-GE to prepare it for boost, and then buy and install all parts needed for turbocharging. I would say this approach may be economically sensible if you aim at more than 400 hp.

Hope this helps a bit.
BTW, what car do you consider? Your 4th gen GS, or do you have/want to buy some 2nd gen as a project car?
