Default ~ Stock Twins Dont Clear ~

The 2JZGTE VVTI is in! Finally! However I cannot get the transmission to line up and the motor seems a little crooked. We get the car on a lift to inspect the lower half of the engine and we notice the stock snail closest to the firewall, is in fact touching the firewall. The shop recommends doing one of two things, bang on the firewall for clearance or just go single. My decision was to go single.

mine fit just fine with no banging on the firewall. only mod i had to do is slightly bend a heater core pipe. this is an easy swap, i did mine in 12 hours including changing out the fuel pump, running a return line, making a custom downpipe, and swapping the rear diff.

It should clear, the heater core pipe is an issue but the lower firewall is no biggie. Are you sure one of the motor mounts didn't get put on set forward on the block (if they were removed for whatever reason), there are a bunch of threaded holes on the vvti blocks for different mounts/positions.. I'm sure it's prob on right, just taking a random guess because you should not be having problems lining up the trans or that much issue with the firewall. Got any pics?

On mine the aft turbo was touching the harness that runs along the fire wall just near the pinch weld area. I took a broom handle cut it down and used that to push the harness a but lower to keep it from rubbing on the turbo. In time it would have chaffed on the turbo and probably caused some electrical issues.

I just had a small issue with the little intake pipe for the back turbo touching the firewall of the GS430 engine bay. It wasnt allowing the engine to sit straight so I couldnt align the tranny to the subframe. I replaced the stock twins with a single and now everything fits like a glove.

What poses an issue with this engine fitting in the engine bay? I've read/searched it seems there are issues with the twin turbos hitting the firewall or heater hoses. Ive bent the heater hose, so that is eliminated. In all of the posts that I have read over the last two months, I could not find one that explained that the firewall needed to be banged for clearance with the stock twins. I am probably two inches too far forward in the engine bay. Any guidance/suggestions would be appreciated from any guys running stock twins. Thanks in advance.

I don't have the funds to go single, (yet) but would like to get the car back on the road.
