So how large was the shot and why do he expect the street tires to hold the spray? Was that is very first pass on the setup or something?
i don't see it that way, but i'll agree to disagree.

i think he was running anywhere from a 75- to 100-shot. given that he had ran the same set-up a year ago @ The Pursuit 2, he should've known. but iirc, the owner/driver of the SGM IS350 did mention something about the tires being a little "fresh"...

imo, an alternative to street tires are what tire rack classifies as "track and competition DOT" tires. i picked up my pair of Kumho V700's for $70. granted, they were used, but i got them from a weekend track warrior that had ran them on an E46 M3 for a small handful of track days.

while road-racing tires have very stiff sidewalls (vs. drag radials), they still use compounds for the track that have a much wider operating temperature range and work better in temperatures where street tires start getting slippery.

No prob.

Fresh tires eh? Like brand new and not broken in yet? Hmmmm,

Yeah, the budget alternative is finding some used road course "slicks" or surprisingly snow tires do well too. All the snipes in the tread grip really well; ask me how I know. LOL!

Yep, the downside is that sidewall...you want as much give as you can get without the tire/slick spinning on the wheel.

I think what I have decided to do it to upgrade to some 19" wheels/tires over the winter, and have a set of MT ET Streets mounted on the stock 18's for next season.

Sound like a win to me. I've still gonna sell my BFG DRs I have mounted on some Diamond Racing 14s I had for my boosted Honda. It sucked driving it around town with those on to get any bit of traction on a 2000lb car with 400whp. LOL!
