Default Considering these tires for some dragstrip traction

Considering having these mounted for some better traction at the dragstrip than I am getting with my Conti DWS's. Opinions? Anyone used them? 140 treadwear and AA traction.. might help a little.

I didn't see the 255/40 that is on the car now. Should 255/35 work without a problem on the factory 18"?

Would it work, yes. Will it be optimal...no. You honestly need a tire with more sidewall in drag racing. With my new BFG KDWs (factory spec 255/40/18s) at the track I'd honestly hook with zero wheel spin with a 2k pre-load on the converter. PSI down to around 25 psi cold.

BUT, if you can find actually DRs at that size I would highly recommend it.

Please do a review after you get them & break them in! I have the Toyo Proxes T1R's right now & they don't hook 1st gear at all, was considering getting some tires in that category (Hankook RS3's) to throw on the rears but these R1R's would save me some money.

Ill take a look at the BFG's. If I had a spare set of factory rims to mount something on, I would get the stickiest tire I could get, but I will also be daily driving these for now.

I was looking at the T1R's too... glad you posted. How low do you go on tire pressure?

Agreed.. I read more info on them, and not recommended to be in temps below 15 degrees F. Probably not a good choice unless they were only run at track, and kept in temp control

My T1R's hooked up most of the time when it was 80F+, but where I am, it is mostly always in the 60's & that is when they don't hook up at all. They are a definitely a good all around tire with good tread life, but I want something that can stick right away without having to do a burnout first. I ran them around 30psi I believe. I sat in a friends IS350 with Hankook V12 Evo's & they hooked nicely in 1st gear when it was cold, so I'm looking into those as well. Had the V12 Evo's on my s2k & they were great, a bit of sidewall flex that you can feel in the corners but overall traction was not bad. I wouldn't be tracking or taking the IS350 in the mountains, just some straight line acceleration so the sidewall flex wouldn't bother me as much.

Not sure how I missed this earlier, but MT make a very close OE spec sized DR for 18" wheels (245/40/18) :

Nice.. I may look into getting a set of spare factory wheels and setting them up for track duty.

^You cannot go wrong with those things! Great if you ever plan to add a shot of nitrous too; street tires just won't cut it...this is why :

LOL!

The 245 40 18 MT are great! I have them on my IS-F and I can't get them to spin.

Where did you find the best location to get these tires? Might upgrade my wheels/tires and put some on my factory 18's

LOL!
the SGM IS350 was on cold street tires (BFG"s, btw). they didn't even hook up before the nitrous kicked in. note how the SGM IS350 was slightly squirrely and hesitant off the line.

on the other hand, the TP IS350 that got the holeshot had 265/35-18 R-Compound tires. had the tires not grabbed, it would've never made it out of the SGM IS350's way as the rear end broke and swung around.

ask me how i know.

OMG! ROFLMAO! LOL!

the TP IS350 in the far lane that almost didn't make it out of the way of the SGM IS350's rear end as it was broke loose and was coming around?

that was me.

oh, and the owner of the SGM IS350 that crashed?

a fellow CL member.

neither him nor i would consider what happened a "LOL" matter.

I know I'm making light of the situation; but that's what you gonna do after something like this happens. Throw some money at it, and laugh at it in the end. Chaulk it up to a lesson learned.

So how large was the shot and why do he expect the street tires to hold the spray? Was that is very first pass on the setup or something?
