For intakes like the Takeda or K&N Typhoon are you still able to put the engine covers on?

EDIT: Also comparing these short rams (K&N and AFE Takeda) to the box intake (F-Sport) is it a night and day difference from the two in sound? Or is it just a little bit louder than F-Sport or vice versa. If its noticeably louder I might just get the short ram if its a small tiny difference I might just get the F-Sport

So i finally got a chance to install my K&N Typhoon intake yesterday and you should have a seen the huge smile on my face when i floored it . i cant believe this thing is that loud. as soon as you put 40% throttle around 3500RPM this thing opens up with a loud growl that everyone around could hear from a block away. it exactly sounds like the two stage intake on ISF but much louder. i've had intakes on my previous cars but none of them sounded this aggressive and nice. mind you that i have the IS350 so it might be a bit different sounding than the 250.

With respect to power i cant notice much difference but the sound it makes is worth 50 hp . i highly doubt it is losing any power what so ever. so for the people with joez/stock intakes you guys should install one of these i guarantee you wont regret it. I haven't heard the f-sport intake but i highly doubt is as loud as thing thing (which means it doesn't sound as good ). i will try to upload pics and sound clip in a week but i'm sure they wouldn't do justice to this thing.

I cant speak for all intakes but the Fsport and Takeda do allow you do put the engine covers back on. The sound difference is not really night and day (keep in mind I have an hks/invidia exhaust setup so I might be baised because that ends up drowning out the sound of the intake ) but it is def louder than the Fsport. And the difference between SRIs and the Fsport/joeZ is only ~5hp so go for sound!

There shouldnt be any sound difference between a 250/350. The Fsport is def not as loud as short rams, make sure to post a video!

From my testing, the heat shields are worthless unless they actually form a complete barrier top to bottom. It may be slightly (and I mean ever so slightly) better than no heat shield at all, but certainly not near as good as a complete barrier.

so an update on my K&N typhoon, it seems like the ecu has adjusted itself to the intake so now its a bit less loud compared to the first time i floored or i might got used to it , not sure, but it still damn loud and addictive. now here is the interesting part, my wife drove my car today for the first time after i installed the intake and she just messaged me asking me if the intake increased the power of the car. so i'm like does it feel faster? and she said yes "it feels faster and it sounds like a f**** animal" . so for those concerned about their wife/GF don't worry about it, just let them drive it once and they will fall in love with it. now its time to convince her for coils

Put some ear plugs in and drive the car. Does it still "feel" faster?

even with ear plugs you will hear it because of the base of the growl . but seriously i feel the car is more lively after intake kicks in. its well worth the money cause you can easily re-sell it later and while you have it you will enjoy it. Another interesting thing is when i floored it the first time with my wife in the car she was like "what is that annoying sound, i don't like it" and then when she drove and floored it she loved it .

Well worth the money because of the sound? Yes!

Worth it because of the ~5hp you gained or lost? Not really

Yup, a lot of people confuse the loudness of the intake to true gains.
There's a reason some people think the car is faster or accelerates better on ECT PWR mode.

Question about the K&N....can you put the engine bay cover back on for that side or does it not fit under there?
