Why you mod your exhaust?

Default Why you mod your exhaust?

Hi everyone,

Just curious to know why everyone mod their exhaust. Curious to ask because, it gives a very minimal HP gain for the price of an exhaust. HP gain/dollar spent not quite worth it in my opinion..

If you are like me and get an exhaust because I want a deep throaty sound that I can really hear, there's less expensive ways of doing it than getting more expensive exhausts like a JoeZ or F sport. An invidia midpipe with a less expensive exhaust such as M2 would be louder than either JoeZ and F sport alone in my opinion. (please correct me if I'm wrong)

If you are after the looks, it's kind of subtle . .

What do you guys think?

It is purely for sound. I doubt many people can admit they spent $800-1200 for 5hp.

Axle-back exhausts also don't remove any of the cats, for smog reasons. They are also infinitely easier to swap in than a midpipe, as the o2 sensor is a giant pain to remove.

7 hp, and only $400 in my case (used, perfect condition, Tanabe)

That's about $57 per hp... which is awful by domestic standards, but about as good as it gets on this car other than the Joe Z intake (~$25 per hp)... (the PPE headers don't do too badly by these standards IF you do your own labor, but they're useless if you live someplace you want to pass emissions unfortunately)

I'd have had to kick my own you-know-what if I'd spent $1200 for 7 hp...the 400 was painful enough for the relatively small gain.

I certainly didn't do it to make my car loud. My last car set off car alarms idling past, that was not my intended direction with this one (and I'm missing a couple cylinders and a lot of cubic inches to do that properly anyway).

The tips look a lot nicer than stock though, which is a nice bonus.

I wanted only a bit more sound and a nice tip look and the Tanabe is perfect for me in both cases.
I also had a Tanabe on a '06 IS250 AWD I owned.

+1 for the sound and looks. And another +1 for mission accomplished.

Mostly for the sound so the car could sound as aggressive as it looked. It's to complete the whole package of the car when it's modded. A stock sounding car that looks aggressive dropped on nice wheels looks a little funny rolling down the street.

like everyone said, mostly for sound. Gaining hp is very minor.
