Catalytic converter - its for emissions control. You have some in your headers (Primary cats), and then another pair in your mid-pipe (These are your "secondary cats).

Megan mid pies have them built in in just like OEM - but the invidia deletes them. Deleting them also makes your exhaust louder since now its just a straight pipe lol ...

Thanks for your response, very helpful as always
However, does that mean by deleting the secondary cats in midpipe, it's not as easy to pass smog check since you now have less emission control? Haha I don't know why but I feel dumb for asking this question

If you want to pass emissions you're restricted to the axle-back exhausts. Anything that changes or removes a working catalytic converter is illegal in all 50 states.

Oh really? Thanks for letting me know How do people with Invidia pass smog check, then?

Also, is there any other time this can be caught ?

One of three ways:

They swap the stock parts back every year or two for inspection (depending how often it's checked in their state)

They live someplace they don't check smog

They bribe an inspection station to break the law

PROBABLY? no

POSSIBLY? I suppose in some areas (depending on state/local laws and how the cops are) it's possible. Especially if you get pulled for the exhaust violating some noise ordinance or something I suppose... Just not very likely that the cop would do more than write the sound ticket and actually check under the car.

Thanks so much for the info! with that said, I probably won't go with a midpipe then. Don't want to have to deal with swapping it on and off when smog check comes up here in CA... unless if I can find a good used Megan mid I guess :-/

Is the deletion of secondary cat going to significantly worsen the emission?

Most definitely the best sounding imo
Def a great sound and look. But for $5,300 I'm good off that. I will stick with my F-Sport. haha. I could get a couple sets of rims for that price.

I was thinking the same thing. I love my HKS combined with the Invidia, but I think it might be a little too loud for some people. I like loud though

Yea... its pretty loud. One of the loudest axelback exhausts for the 2IS. That, and some people don't like the huge round mufflers and tips.

Could it also be because the drone is like the worst compared to other axel-backs?
