Default F-Sport Intake Question

Hey guys, I tried to look around for an answer and couldn't find one. I recently installed the F-Sport air intake on my '06 IS350 and I noticed that there is a part on the stock intake tube that is not present on the F-Sport tube. I can't figure out what it is, and I was wondering if any of you all knew. I've attached a picture. It's the part in the circle; on the F-Sport the tube is just smooth there with no openings etc. The car seems to run fine without whatever that mystery part is, but I've only been around the block, so who knows if trouble will pop up later. Thanks in advance!

Actually, that part is un-needed if you have the F-Sport intake installed. It's only useful to the OEM intake.

The only parts you need from the OEM Intake are the top filter box cover and gromets/metal sleeves (to mount the F-Sport lower filter box).

You are good to go! You'll find out immediately when you screwed up on any intake installs. Your car will sputter / stall and there will be Check Engine light.

^^^what he said. though you'll also need those clips from the stock lower box to put on the f-sport box. I put mine in last weekend and have had no problems....except that I have a lead foot now (because I love hearing the rumble!)

Sweet. Thanks for the help. The first time I started up the Check VSC light came on and then went away, but on the second start up, no lights, and everything seems to be running fine. I figured it was an un-needed part, especially since there was nowhere to put it, I just didn't what it actually was. Thanks again for the responses!

that's just a resonator chamber that silences the air.

Ah. Thanks for the info. That's a lot larger and differently shaped than the resonator chamber on my old car. It was just more like a tube--I hadn't run across something looking like this before.
