Default How to install USED exhausts

I did a search and the exhaust installation thread I found are over a year old.

Anyway, it's the same remove and replace which I already know.

What do I do about the used gaskets? A friend of mine pointed out that it might have leaks because the gasket has already been used/crushed. A new one from Tanabe will cost me $30!

I'm planning to have this installed myself so it shouldn't be too hard.

I'll soak the bolts in WD-40 the night before so the the'll break loose easily. WD-40 the rubber hangers for easier removal.

The rest should be remove and replace.

Any other concerns that I should be aware of?

BTW, this was supposed to be my top secret mod #2. But it's better to be safe. Oh well... I more mods secretly planned.

You can get the gasket in the local auto part store for less than $10 bucks. The only concern you may have could be you might have an extra bolt again once your 2nd top secret is done.

^^^ LOL! If there was an extra bolt after installing the exhausts, then I know I'm in deep shhh...

Anyway, I remember reading somewhere that I also can use some type of sealant paste on the gasket to prevent leaks. Does anyone know what it's called? I think it was copper based sealant?

LOL!! Quang that's messed up. hehehehe

Shadowman, I wouldn't risk it. If it were me, I'd get new gaskets. If you get a leak and the back pressure is all funkified, who knows what it's going to do with your readings.

Lights are gonna flash, your headlights won't work, you won't be able to get it in reverse, you turn on your air and your windshield wiper goes on, your rear seats will start to fold down....you know how dang sensitive these cars are.

Way better to get new ones than the stress it would cause.

@Micaiah - thanks for the hint. Since I'm the second owner, it shouldn't be that bad. Plus, the Permatex should help to prevent the exhaust leak.

What's wrong with your oem's gasket? isn't your car a 2010? I used my oem's on my fsport exhaust with no problem.

The concern is that the gasket has been crushed from the initial installation. It will not be as effective having to be used sub-sequent times...

But I'll use Permatex Ultra Copper on the gaskets to make sure that it prevents the exhuast from leaking out.

If you're worried, orange silicone on both sides will seal any imperfections. Doubtful you will find gaskets at your local parts store for Tanabe Exhaust. Usually they're a very specific size. On my GS300 they were like 60mm and 70mm. AND the holes for the bolts have to be a certain distance from each other, AND the gasket material has to be the specific size around the flange as well. I didn't have any gaskets to start with, so I looked for them literally everywhere. Only place I found them was from Tanabe.

My gaskets were pretty shot when I installed my F-Sport, but I used them anyway. No problems.

My Tanabe is f*ing loud about 2K RPM and above.... Did I install it right?

Does that mean I have an exhaust leak after the secondary cat since there were no gasket to connect that part? I didn't compress the springs all the way since I read up on another post that you didn't have to. I just compressed it slightly more than the OEM exhaust.

I could've sworn it was louder than the F-Sport and Borla with midpipes. I can hear the rumble with all windows rolled up.
