Are you referring to the black box stemming off the factory air box area that helps silence the stock intake? You could remove it, but don't expect much for gains. Just get an aftermarket intake.

The ACIS is in the manifold itself (at the rear). I believe it runs off vacuum to make the intake runners longer at high vacuum (light throttle) for more torque and shorter at low vacuum (heavy throttle / WOT) for more HP. I wouldn't mess with it unless I was FI. Then I might remove it all together just because it could be a restriction. If you unhook the vaccum line from the valve at the back of the intake, it should stay open in the WOT mode. You should give it a shot & report back.

i wouldn't mess with it it will kill your low end being open all the time. unless your running big boost numbers dont mess with it...
