Question Red Line WaterWetter super coolant

Has anyone used the Red line WaterWetter super coolant? Is it necessary at all if Im using Toyota coolant? Are there any benefits in using this product in our GS? Thanks.

I've used it on both my supra and boosted GS300 for the last five or so years. I run a 70/30 mix of water to coolant and run a full bottle of water wetter and it helps alot.

unless you are boosted, i don't really see a need for this additive...

I'm assuming that you've never driven your car very hard in the 4500+ rpms for long periods of time before right? You'll definitely boil over! I used to track my GS300 running NA and after 20 mins of the track, my coolant would overflow and boil over running a 50/50 mix.

It will work fine in cold climates, just like a cooling system without it, so long as you have the necessary coolant/water mixture present.

From Redline's website: "Does not lower cooling system below the thermostatically-controlled temperature."

the basic idea of these water wetters is that it breaks the surface tension of the coolant/water, making it "wetter." its opposite of how scotch guard does to fabric.

i havent ran any in the GS yet, but use to in my previous car. even in colder climates it helps prevent overboil.

FWIW, you're supposed to run water only on most any track (both 1/4 miles tracks that follow NHRA rules and road courses). No anti-freeze and no additives. Anything else becomes a serious traction hazard and surface preparation problem if it spills.

I'm with kamlung, no real need for this unless you're boosted or having overheating problems (and even then its a band-aid for fixing whatever the real problem is with your cooling system).

It IS a good product and I believe it works as advertised. I did run it on my GS after I put the supercharger on, but didn't really need it.

^ after boosting did you notice any difference? Did Mr Johnson (Peter) also run this on his white 2gen GS? I was considering using it for the same reason you did just to play it safe. My car will not be at the track so no worries there.

if you're not going to track your car, don't even bother.

a higher pressure rad cap and a lower temp thermostat would provide more boil-over protection on the track.
