Default e-shift question

The other day I started my gs4 and backed out of the garage as usual. I go to e-shift down from mode 5 to 2 and it only goes to mode 3 and beeps at me. I was only rolling about 5 MPH, so speed was not the issue.

As we all know, when you go into e-shift the default is mode 5. Usually you can press down three times to get to mode 2. Any ideas why my car beeped and didn't allow me to go there?

A few minutes later I tired again and it let me into second.

Any ideas? The car only has 34K miles, so it can't be a tranny issue...

Thanks.

the car is protecting itself. pretty cool, huh? it wont let you shift to 2nd until your temps are up. that way youre not able to over rev the engine. it will also not let you redline either, 3rd or otherwise....

Yeah, I got freaked out by that too when it first happened. I've found that it lets you get into 2nd once your temp level passes the 1/4 mark.

YEAH... i was wondering about that too when I first got my car... I just figured that maybe the car won't let you shift down to 2nd until the car was warmed up... I guess I was right...

try running at 70 and shift to 2nd, you will see that it won't let you. that is idiot-proof protection. all tiptronic cars have that protection hee hee hee:eek:

well, on my acura the moment you start the engine cold, you can already use the sport shift to shift it to 2nd and redline

If you redline it to 6700, you'll feel the car vibrate as the fuel cut-off engages. It will not let you speed past redline.

Nice way to shorten the life of the engine.

well their reason is to reduce the chance or excessive overreving the engine. kinda make sense but it definitely hurts the performance a bit i guess

something to do with the tranny ECU...hopefully Mo @ SRT has cracked the code to the tranny.
