I was recently Bought a 99 lexus gs 430 For 1K and i love thoese cars ever since they came out but the engine is knocking Its a vvti idk if the engine is messed up or is a baring that spun or rod that is ****ed up plzz let me kno what you guys think?? Thanks

 

Sorry to knock you here bro! But #1: You paid only 1k for the car, maybe you should invest in a new engine. And # 2, Lexus only started making GS430 from 2001... At least, this is from my knowledge, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_GS

I take personal satisfaction in helping folks out on this forum, but if I have a hard time reading your post, this might be all you get.

 

Welcome, can you go to a mechanic you trust, get a diagnosis of the engine's noise and when you do, let us know of the outcome. Knocking does not sound good but, only someone there can check it out at this point. Keep us posted.

 

I agree with what has been said above. First, check to see which engine you have, the six or the eight cylinder. The six will say vvti on the engine cover (GS300), the GS400 was offered between 1998-2000 and the GS430 between 2001-2005 (for the second gen. GS)

Look on the manufacturer's sticker on the inside of the driver's door jam. This will tell you what you have and when it was built.

Lastly, for $1,000, you are going to get junk. I'm sure the car needs new everything at that price.

If you got it cheap and the body, paint and interior is good, replace the motor from a salvage yard or have it rebuilt! Once she's running right, then you can address what needs to be done afterwards. Check with your mechanic to see what will work for you.

 

The knocking can be from a bad idler bearing or another bearing in the timing belt assembly or it maybe rod knock.

Find someone the will give you a correct diagnosis, about 1 hour labor...

 

I see you changed it from a 430 to 400... Yes I too agree you should take it to a mechanic and get a propor diagnosis... Again, you got it for cheap so now you have to put into the car... Sorry man, thats the way the game is... I think you should do an engine swap or if you wanna drive it to NY, I will be happy to take it off your hands... lol
