Default F-Sport Exhaust Claim

I'm curious to know if anyone has verified the F-Sport exhaust claims of adding 21hp. I was on Sewell's website and they claim it adds 21hp.

I remember reading in an issue of Import tuner a few months back that the exaust adds like 1-2 hp on the dyno that they used, while the f-sport intake adds like 5hp, this was on a is250rwd btw. Im sure you can google it up and find the online article, they got pics of the dyno graph and all

Not sure where did you see 21hp, but I think Lexus's claim is "up to 1.5%" which for 350 is about 4.5-6hp.

considering that just about every axle-back app for the 2is produces 5-6hp increase, i highly doubt that the f-sport exhaust system (which also happens to be an axle-back system) adds 21 hp.

of course, if there was actual proof that it adds 21 hp, i'll stand corrected.

there is no proof! other than that even a true catback exhaust(i.e. JoeZ or any exhaust that runs dual piping) will only yield you 7-10 whp depending on your car. even a midpipe and axle back your still looking at 7-10 at best. Fsport looks and sounds great but they are overpriced for what you get. this is the reason i just got a megan midpipe and a tanabe axle back for a couple hundo's less than the Fsport alone! just my $.02

"Specifications

Material - 304 Stainless Steel
Finish - Polished
Tubing Diamter - 60mm (43% larger than original IS exhaust)
Power Increase - 22 HP on IS350 "

I don't believe it either. I don't think headers and a true dual exhaust will get 22 but i was wondering if anyone had experience here.

They probably picked out the 1 spot on the dyno that had a 21hp gain and claimed it.

More likely it wasn't dynoed properly and they're posting the result of a shift spike

http://www.importtuner.com/powerpage...lse_plugs.html

CONCLUSION
HP Level +HP TQ Level +TQ
Baseline 175.7 162.6
F-SPORT INTAKE 180.4 4.7 166.6 4.0
F-SPORT EXHAUST 181.8 1.4 167.5 0.9
PULSTAR PULSE PLUGS 183.5 1.7 169.5 2.0
Final 183.5 7.8 169.5 6.9

sparkplugs gave more additional HP & TQ then the damn $1400 exhaust!

21whp power numbers are what you get from turbo back exhausts. An axle back at the max will most likely produce 5-6whp at the most throughout an rpm range.

I suppose you might get 21 whp from an exhaust if it was installed on a car with a turbo on it, the 2IS isn't such a car though

if you meant header-back, nope, none of the exhausts like that produce anywhere near 21 rwhp.

Hell headers don't produce that much on this car.

And on the facing page is a great big ad for the sparkplugs no doubt. Sorry, I've dyno'd too many engines to believe sparkplugs add power unless they are correcting a problem with the previously installed units.

Magazines sell advertising. Advertising pays the editor and staff salaries. I've seen MANY articles claiming a BBK shortens stopping distance and they even do tests to prove it. Unfortunately, they don't tell you they put stickier tires on the vehicle before they did the testing, so undoubtedly it will stop in a shorter distance. Same is true for sparkplugs. If the original plug is the correct heat range for the application, gapped correctly, and installed correctly, there isn't going to be even a small difference in horsepower when tested by an impartial tester.
