Default AEM EMS question

Not sure how many people on here are using aem ems's for their swapped gs's, but hopefully someone can help me out here.

i totally removed the factory ecu years ago, purchased a new supra tt harness, and put the aem behind the glovebox. however after doing that, the guages of course dont all work, nor do any of the dummy lights. so i'm kinda tired of looking at a christmas tree on my dash, and was wondering if anyone had any info as to what wires i need to use or t-into so that i can reinstall the factory ecu somewhere in the car and get function of my guage cluster back.

i recall seeing JPI was selling an aem kit, but i had already bought and installed all of my stuff so i didnt read too much into it. most of the wiring for the factory ecu is still intact, though it isnt running to anything currently. i do have the shop manuals for the supra tt and the GS300, so hopefully that will help, just not really sure if it will work totally. any help would be appreciated either here, or by email at supersubee@***.net . thanks in advance.

I have an EMS in my car.

What kind of trans are you running? The stock ecu must be fully plugged in with most of the sensors still feeding into it if you want the gauges to work. These cars use multiplex com systems so you cant just tap wire by wire up to the gauges like on older cars. If I were you, depending on how far out your build is maybe it would be better just to get an aftermarket gauge system like a Stack or Motec. If you really want to get the stock gauges to work, you will have to rebuild the entire wiring harness around the stock ecu. I've built these for the GS as plug and play application, but the entire harness is designed with the stock ecu in mind. Cruise control, abs, gauges, throttle by wire, stock idle control, etc all still works.

thanks for the input jeff. i knew i needed the factory ecu in there, just didnt know how to go about doing it. i was hoping to just run the necessary guage wires to the stock ECU, give it the inputs it needs, and then stash the factory ECU somewhere else. i hadnt even thought about the ABS and the cruise control i was just planning on getting rid of the ABS altogether, but cruise would be nice.

but what you are saying is that it is possible, as long as the factory ecu sees all the necessary sensor inputs. i guess thats all i was looking for. i bought the ems and the supra engine harness 4 years ago, back when there wasnt much info out there on using the aem ems. the car is now done, just awaiting a tune on the dyno and some break in time, so i'd like to just use the factory guages and be done with it. unless you know of somewhere that sells a plug in display that will work with the AEM's.
