Question Unorthodox cam gear???????

Has anyone have Unorthodox cam gears installed in their GS, and if so did it made any noticable differences in power?

LexusLORD,

On a GS300 it provides an additional 7hp to the wheel pickup on the dyno. However, if you want to get into advance power/torque (forced induction) you're going to have to switch back to the factory pulley.

Let me know if you're interested.

Default pully

read somewhere that these pully screw up your engine....and especially when there is a mega audio system in the car...u should not even consider installing the pully.....coz it reduces the eletrical power into the car............

just for ur knowledge.....

Pulleys DO NOT ruin your engine. I had a set of underdrive pulleys on 2 of my previous cars. They dont give u power u can really feel but if u pay close attention, there is a power gain. But if u have a big system...not recomended.

Oh boy. I hope you're not listening to them... talk about misinformation. You're better off asking this question at a Supra forum. All I can tell you is that pulleys (which everybody here assumed you were talking about) and cam gears are not the same, and I'm sure you knew that already. Stay away from the pulleys (fyi they don't come with dampers that are needed to absorb the shock), but the cam gears should be a safe investment. Just do a little more research.

That is all.

I go on Supraforums too. I believe there is also a distinction between stock, BPU and APU. I agree that the harmonic balancer is necessary under high boost condition where the engine RPM will run more rapantly. But under sub low-reving 6000RPM engine speed the Unothordox pulleys does not stress the crank as much as you think. We are talking about a VVT-i based engine where the ECM SELECTS the ideal intake and exhaust valve overlap under ALL engine operating conditions. Regardless, I ran the pulley (same diameter as factory) on my stock engine for almost a year and it was fine. I also dynoed the car at UPRD's old location in Huntington Beach.

Basic performance upgrades and advanced perfomance upgrades. BPU would be basic upgrades where APU would be,
single or upgradede twin turbos. Btw, I would never put an Unorthadox underdrive pulley on my car. They do however, make great cam gears and pulleys for the rest of the engine. I know, I have them on my Supra.

What I have been told is that the Unorthodox Cam Gear (exhust side only) is ok for any car...the pully kit (race version) is no good...however....if you go with the light pully kit it is just like stock only lighter it is ok....it uses your stock belts and everything else

I wouldn't use the race pulley for belt and alternator reasons. I used the street (same diameter size as factory) before with good results.
